Grand gatherings dining experiences?

Hi,
Can someone explain exactly what the Grand gatherings dining experiences and whether there are advantages to booking them, if they need to be paid in advance etc?
We are a party of 12, going in October and already have accommodation and tickets booked and paid for.

I haven't been to any of them, but did some research when I thought we would have enough people to qualify for some of the events.

They are special expiriences just for grand gatherings. The one in AK will have some kind of animal or reptile and the CM(s) will tell you about it.

GG experiences can be booked 180 days in advance, (that is one advantage)
and good descriptions can be found on the Dis main page. Go to the planning tab, and you can see a link. We have a few planned for our trip and are looking forward to it. You need to have the dining plan on your reservation or pay in advance. All have something special activity along with a meal, and they try to seat larger parties together. I believe all have characters, too.

Does anyone know if a GG can book regular ADRs differently or earlier than the 90 days? I thought I heard that there was a different number to call for GGs. Is that just for the special events?

I'm concerned about trying to get ADRs for 10 or 12 people, but don't plan to do any of the special GG events, just regular meals.

GG can book your regular ADR's and I recomend doing this. The GG people are great and can find things that regular CM can not. They are good at counting seats and not just tables, do I make sense. They have in the past even sent a letter to each family in our GG with our dining plans.

For your regular ADR's they can not make anything earlier than your 90 day mark. I would call ahead of time and get the GG number and call that at 7 am at your 90day mark and you will not have any problems.
