We did this in Feb. It is great. You get a private safari, and they go much slower and sometimes stop so that you can take pictures of the animals. If you have been on the safari ride, you also get the traditional "story" from the ride at the end.
As far as the dinner goes, there are some pretty non-traditional foods, which were all great, but if you have picky eaters, there may not be enough of a selection for them. We were all fine, except for a couple of our kids who would not even eat the mini corn dogs, but they don't eat anything but regular hot dogs, pizza and chicken nuggets. I would check out the Tusker House menu on allearsnet.com, that is pretty much the food you will get.
There are African musicians who play during dinner and after they also get the kids up and let them play some drums and other instruments, they may have also done a parade around the restaurant. They also bring in a few animals for the kids to interact with and Timon and Rafiki there for autographs and pictures. You could take as much time as you wanted for everything.
We loved the experience and we even had rain during our safari ride. Have fun if you decide to do it.
