This is a resort I've never stayed in, but it's so expensive! We're thinking about splurging. Does anyone know if there are good spots by the pool where you can be in the shade? If there isn't it won't be worth it for me as I can't handle the sun full on for very long and we would like to use the pool. How's the transportation as far as ease of use with an ECV?

Does anyone have an opinion on if it's really worth the extra money to be there?

Getting to either MK or Epcot is by monorail, which is easy.

Grand Floridian has 2 pools. One is the more 'feature' pool and one is more quiet. Here's a link to the DIS site's page about GF. Like the other resorts, there are tables with umbrellas that you can sit at. The grounds are beautiful and very relaxing.

Thanks Sue, do you know if there's any shadey spots by the pool where you can have a recliner? I can't handle full sun.

Have you thought of the Polynesian? There are umbrellas and shady spots there. It was very nice and homey.

Yes, I've stayed there before. It was wonderful, but I do enjoy trying new things at Disney. Thanks though!

I was looking for some pictures that would show, but could not find any.
They have the same reclinable beach chairs as other resorts and you can movie them.
You will probably find that shady spots vary with the time of day. At noon, there might not be any, but later or earlier in the day there would be because of the sun angle.

I looked again and found these:

Hello! You might want to try posting this question on the Grand Floridian thread in the Resorts section. There is a very active group that is always eager to answer questions.

The GF has some nice double chaises with canopies. They are similar to the canopy ones at the Polynesian. I'll see if I can find a picture of them. Anyway, they are on the beach and you'd have to sit back in them to completely avoid the sun.

There are also 4 (I think) cabanas that would provide you with great shade. Two of them were outfitted with little refrigerators and were available for rental. I saw reports that all were going to be that way soon but don't know if that is accurate or has happened yet.

As you can see from Sue's pictures, there are some areas with shade but for the most part there's a whole lot of sunning going on around the GF pools. I burn easily so try to sit in the shade. For me, sitting at a table and moving around to avoid the sun has worked.

You can probably see that the chaise are the nice solid ones which are more comfy than the ones at our beloved Polynesian.
