We've stayed at the Poly front he 29th of Nov to the 7th of Dec. We also ate at GF and toured the beach and pool during Wishes.
I have to say the GF wins Hands down for me.
First the rooms at the Poly are a bit - shall we say - dated. The ceiling above our shower was all rippled and falling down. It had a fresh coat of paint, however paint doesn't fix that particular problem. The shower also had only a trickle of water with made washing hair a bit tricky. Though for the amount of time we were in the room not a huge deal, but honestly for the amount we spent on the room I was disappointed. The beds were very comfortable, we loved the patio, and the size was awesome.
I honestly wasn't impressed by the volcano pool - at 4 ft deep it's not even deep enough to swim - though my 3 and 5 yr olds loved it.
The beaches were comparable from ne resort to the next. The view of Wishes was nice at both resorts.
At Poly we liked being close to the TTC - the monorail stopped working one morning and the line for the boats was ridiculous - a short walk brought us to the TTC.
The Poly is the first drop off from the ME.
I LOVE the GCH at the Poly - and all the grounds - the lush foliage is so wonderful.
Ohana is one of my Favorite restaurants, and the ginger crusted steak at Kona is divine. However Captain Cooks was horrible. We tried it 3 times, each time was worse than the one before. The third time the manager had me so close to tears because of her treatment. We do have dietary issues, but that shouldn't change how they treat us.
At GF they have a soap shop in the Main building upper level that sends a very strong scent through the entire building. It's very strong and as such DH nor I would want to be int here for long.
We loved Dinning at Citricos and 1900 Park Fare was wonderful. We didn't try the quick service.
We did walk between the 2 resorts with a buggy and a baby on DHs back - itt was maybe 10-15 minutes. It was a nice walk. There is a fair amount of walled off areas due to construction, but honestly they weren't too bad. The walk was enjoyable.
Personally I loved the look of the GF pool, there isn't a volcano, however there are rocks around it - there are KTTW locks on the change rooms at the pool - however while we were there (thankfully since the toddler needed to go potty NOW) they were propped open. The change rooms were clean and nice. We never entered the ones at the Poly.
Ultimately there are pos and cons to both,, but for the price I'd rather stay at the more kept up resort and we had so much better service at he GF which makes a HUGE difference.
