My parents are dying to know:

Does the area in the Grand Floridian where the jazz band plays have a dance floor at all? If not, ever seen anyone dancing anyways? Also, is it a nice enough place to put on something a little nicer than normal theme park dress?

Thanks in advance.

Hi DramaTech. No the main lobby area under where the jazz band plays does not have a dance floor but yes, I have seen people dancing before. And also nicer attire is not unusual to see at the GF.

I have danced there briefly when they play. Actually they're very very nice and friendly. Me and DH saw them from the other side of GF, I waved at them. They were outside of the lounge on the 2nd floor. They waved back, and signaled us to come over. We did, and they said "dance!". And we did!

Had a great time there.

Does anyone know the schedule for the Jazz Band?

I remember we went to have a look round the resort on our last trip, but the band weren't there. DH is a big jazz fan and he would love to hear them.

Thanks :D

We stayed in the main building in May, and we enjoyed the band and the piano music each night. The band alternates with the pianist (Christian Frederick is outstanding, by the way). I think that the music starts around 5pm and it ends at 11 pm. You can call the resort to confirm. Enjoy!

The Grand Floridian Society Orchestra is the actual name of the group. They are not a jazz band, they play a variety of music, most seems to be standards and swing.

There is no dance floor per se. The lobby can be a bit crowded during some times. If it's not particularly crowded I see no reason with dancing abit, but they'll likely be the only ones doing so.

You'll see people dressed in a variety of styles, especially at the GF. Go ahead and ress up if they want :)

I've danced to the band quite a few times myself -- up in the Royal Palm Club, on the second floor near the doors to the monorail station, and down in the lobby. Myself and my partners (husband, sister, daughter, niece, etc.) were usually the only ones dancing but sometimes a few other brave folks joined in. It is always wonderful to let the spirit of the moment take you away.
