DH, my parents, and I will be in WDW in Dec and would like to have breakfast at the GF. I'd like to hear opinions on both of these restaurants. We're all good sports, so the characters at 1900 PF would be fun for us, but we're not necessarily seeking out character meals. Who has the better food? Anything else we should know? TIA! :)

Hi!
We live very close to WDW and have eaten just about everywhere. We just recently dined at Grand Floridian and I will never go back. In fact I would go as far as to say it was the worst food at WDW I've ever had. My husband and I both ordered steak dishes. Both were virtually inedible. We sent them both back for being over cooked. We order medium rare and received beef jerky. Our server was equally terrible. She was brash, unfriendly, and inattentive. The manager ended up comping our entire meal.
1900 PF is ok. If you want a great meal in the vicinity if MK, go to the Wilderness Lodge and indulge in the delight that is Artist Pointe!

I have eaten breakfast at both place (although it was a long time ago that we ate at 1900 Park Fare, so I don't remember much). GF Cafe was good for breakfast.
Do you want buffet or sit down? People love the characters at 1900 Park Fare, and this would of course be a more lively breakfast (also a longer breakfast). GF Cafe would be a quiet, sit down breakfast, that would certainly be quicker. It really comes down to your preferences :)

We both got a small case of food poisoning (or overly greasy food) at the GFC so my vote is for 1900. The food is good (it's a buffet) and the characters are great.

I'm sure it is a coincidence, but my ds9 got food poisoning after a meal at GFC as well- he wound up puking in Monsters Laugh show as we were waiting to go in (we were THAT family)

DBF and I did breakfast at 1900 last year and we loved it! We will be doing it again this year for sure. We weren't bothered about the Characters but it was still full. The food was lovely and the service was great.

I'd have to say "1900 Park Fare"... just for the "fun" of it... and the STRAWBERRY SOUP !

Wow, I'm shocked by the bad reviews of Grand Floridian Cafe. We ate their for breakfast last year and it was wonderful! Our server was lovely, very accomodating and polite. Also the food was really delicious. I had mickey waffle (they serve it with cinnamon sugar on top MMMMM yummy!) with bacon and eggs and DH had steak and eggs. We also had mimosas. Everything was absolutely delicous. The atmosphere was also really relaxed and open and airy. The views out the windows of the GF grounds are really pretty.

GF is much better foodwise and much quieter

Compromise - the Wave is now also serving a breakfast buffet as well as a regular menu and has been getting good reviews. You're still at a monorail resort so the travel time/park access would be about the same.

FWIW, we have eaten breakfast at 1900 PF but not GFC. 1900PF food was OK and the strawberry soup is indeed wonderful, but the character interaction is much better at dinner (entirely different set of characters at the 2 meals), especially for adults. Breakfast characters are from Pooh, Alice, and/or Mary Poppins. For the Pooh characters for breakfast you might have a more magical overall experience at CP, especially if you can get ADRs before rope drop. Walking down Main Street WITHOUT all the crowds is pretty neat.

Me too. We enjoy GFC we find the breakfast to be quite good & it is a quieter meal of course. But Kona is also a great choice for Breakfast.

One year we watched the CM's planting flowers out the windows man do they have it down so quick & pretty when they were done.

We've had 1900 for breakfast twice & it was very good. Service was good & the place was lively. Only had dinner at GF once & the food was not that good. Service was excellent tho.

Thanks for the input! I'm sorry to hear a few people got sick. GFC's menu does have some rather heavy and rich items on it, so maybe if we avoid those, we'll be ok!:thumbsup2

1900 Park Faire is one of my favorite character meals. Alice and Mad Hatter are a kick, and any day with Mary Poppins is a Jolly Holiday. Throw in Pooh and Tigger and you've got something for everyone. :goodvibes

I haven't tried the other restaurant, so can't comment there. A fabulous other choice would be Kona at the Polynesian, a short hop on the monorail.

Stopped at 1900 Park Fare and had breakfast. We were lucky enough to eat there on our last day stay at Disney. The buffet was amazing.

We love both of them and have never had an issue at the Grand Floridian Cafe. We have been to both many times and you really can't go wrong with either one.

That being said there is something to be said for dining with the characters at 1900 Park Fare that is special. Nothing makes you feel like you're in Disney more than a character meal.

You can't go wrong with either one but if I had to choose I would pick 1900 Park Fare.

Grand Floridian Cafe without hesitation! We ate there twice and always had great food and great service! :thumbsup2
