Grand Canyon to Palm Springs/Palm Desert??

We are leaving the Grand Canyon (South Rim in June) and headed to Anaheim. As we were told it was a long drive, it was suggested we stop for an evening in Palm Springs or Palm Desert. Any suggestions of what to see in Palm Springs or Palm Desert? Places to eat?

Any idea how long the drive actually takes either from Grand Canyon to Palm Springs or directly to Anaheim? I have seen several estimations online but they seem to vary by several hours. Any advice as to where to stop for a bite to eat along the way?

I would be interested in any advice from those who have driven this route.

It's about a 7-hr drive from Grand Canyon to Disneyland. I'd just drive straight through. We've driven from Anaheim to Sedona going the same route, and it took a little less time. Besides. You don't want to be in the Palm Desert in June. It's pretty miserable.
