Would you do this?"?

August 26, 2005—Fear of heights? This is definitely no place for you.
The all-glass, balcony-like "Skywalk"--shown in an illustration released this week--will extend over the edge of the Grand Canyon, 4,000 feet (1,200 meters) above the Colorado River.

"The Skywalk will be an attraction unlike any other in the world," said Sheri Yellowhawk, CEO of the Grand Canyon Resort Corporation. The company is building the bridge in the Hualapai Indian Reservation on the south rim of the canyon.

The Skywalk is scheduled to open to the public in January 2006 as part of a new resort on the reservation. The resort, known as Grand Canyon West, is to include a re-created Indian village and a restaurant perched on the edge of the canyon. Tourism is the reservation's biggest source of income.

Grand Canyon West will be on the western edge of Grand Canyon National Park, about 120 miles (about 200 kilometers) from Las Vegas. But perhaps not even the Las Vegas Strip's over-the-top attractions will be a match for this glass-bottom walkway over the world's biggest gorge.

My fear of heights would win! But it would be tempting. I saw the GC for the first time this summer.... absolutely spectacular!!............P

i would have a hard time visiting the canyon. Ever since the brady bunch i've decided i'd never ride the donkeys down.

Maybe.....if I could stand on it all by myself. Not that I weigh that much but why take chances.

I don't like it - the buildings blend in very well with the natural setting, but that skywalk thing really takes away from the natural beauty of the Grand Canyon. What's next? A shopping mall? Leave nature alone!

I would do it, but only if there are a few other people on it. Not that I wouldn't do it alone, but I'm afraid that the weight of a big crowd would make the sky walk collapse.

It can withstand the weight of 7 fully loaded boeings, I think with a few people it will be safe...lol

OH I would LOVE it!!!

I'm not sure I like the aesthetics of it - I do prefer that natural areas remain natural, but I do love looking down from high places. :goodvibes

I alwasy get window seats on planes so I can look down, and I even tried to stick my head through the safety bars on top of the Empire State Building so I could see straight down better

We're in the preliminary phase of planning a trip to the Grand Canyon in '08 :)

Is this to be on the South rim or the North rim? DH wants to visit the north rim, simply because most people visit the south, and he wants to avoid the crowds somewhat (we know total avoidance is impossible).

I agree! We visited the Grand Canyon (south rim) for the first time this summer and I was really impressed with how well the existing buildings fit into the surroundings.
