I don't want to pay the $15 night to valet park my car at the Grand Californian for 6 nights. I think I have read that there is self parking but it is across the street. Is that true and if so how hard is it to cross back over and does anyone know what the self park cost is?

Thanks
George

George, parking is INCLUDED in all packages, it's not extra to valet park...although it is nice to tip the valets. :)

I paid $6.00 per 24 hour period for valet parking. I checked in 6:00 pm on Friday and checked out 3:00 pm on Sunday. The total cost was $12.00 for parking. :)

Thats great that it is included. Thanks for the info.

I just got my Airline Tickets today, so I guess this trip is really going to happen.

I am staying on points for six nites - will I be charged to park using valet? Sure will miss the park in front of the hugh unit at OKW!!!

when are you going niagara....

have heard that parking is included (self parking) but that valet is extra...

we are staying there in may on points for two nights and was wondering about the cost of parking and told that it was "included" guess will just have to wait and see..

We're staying on points, too! (Isn't DVC a wonderful thing?? :D ) We received our confirmation form yesterday and on the info sheet for the Grand Californian it said the $5 parking fee was waived for people staying on points. I'm assuming it must be for valet because what hotel could possibly charge it's customers to self park? Honestly, I'm amazed that they would even charge for valet parking. Isn't that always included at the resorts at WDW that offer it?‚

I am also staying at GC on points and have questions about parking. We are WDW freq. guests and very thought about paying to park (except to tip the valet) never occurred to me But from my previous trips to Calif., (not DL) I was amazed at how much hotels charge guests to park. In particular, San Francisco hotels charge as much as $15. per nt. to GUESTS to park. Prior to deciding to stay on pts., my research on DL hotels showed that some packages inc. parking, but that parking was not inc. for all guests.

Lawgs - two weeks - oneweek before Easter and One after. When are you there? Hope the fee is waived. That would be another nice DVC perk.

Want to hear a not nice DVC perk? I tried to upgrade us to Concierge tonite and was told that because we booked with points we couldn't! I would be more than happy to pay the cash difference now to secure it, but all we could do was put a request with our reservation. We will not know until we check in if there is even any availability! So even though we get to park for free, we can't do all of the same things. (Had to tie parking in here somehow so it wasn't completely off-topic!! :D )

Hum!! we will try to upgrade also. Called and told we have to wait till check in. I think we are all spoiled with size and ease of DVC. Well = location, location, location has always seemed to be the deciding factor.`

we will be the may 1 - 4, then we go to arizona for a week (phoenix) to a time share there...

we decided to fly into LAX since it was way cheaper than flying to phoenix.....as a matter of fact we are flying on the same plane to and from phoenix that we would have if we had just gone to phoenix but saved $$ on southwest by going to LAX ( strange how that occurs..=) ) ...plus the rental cars in LA were much much cheaper than phoenix 105 vs 160 per week for the same size car

so we had some points to use up this year ...and decided to include disney for three days before we go to phoenix....

let us know when u get back what you felt about the Grand Californian....as well as DL and DCA

Just got back from staying on points - we were charge $6 per night for parking - no additional charge for valet.

I asked about upgrading to concierge - I was told that at check in - if available - you can upgrade. It would have cost me $75 per night.

quote:
Our only bad experience at the GC happened at this time. When we pulled up, the bellman put a tag on our windshield, helped us unload, and told us that our car would be going to valet parking. I asked, very specifically, “Is there any other option to valet parking? We would rather just park our car.” To which he replied, “Don’t worry ma’am, you will be able to access your car whenever you need it.” Pretty vague – eh? I of course assumed that this meant that there was no option, so we turned over the car and grumbled to ourselves about having to pay for valet parking when we didn’t want it.

Upon check-in, the CM asked, “Will you be using our valet parking? It’s $6 per day.” I immediately responded, again, “Is there any other option to valet parking? We would rather just park our car.” His answer: “Of course. There is a self-parking lot just across the street.” When I told him of our earlier conversation with the bellman, he apologized and called for our car to be redelivered to the entrance immediately so we could repark it ourselves, no charge. Maybe it was just a misunderstanding, but I felt like someone was trying to take advantage of us. Very un-Disneylike, but corrected in a very Disneylike manner. [NOW I read in another post that Michelle says valet parking is included in all packages - yet the CM at the desk was going to charge us $6 per day. Maybe EVERYONE was trying to take advantage of us...][/quote]

We were there in January for a CM preview and used our DVC points for our stay at the GC. We were charged $6 per day but always valet our car. We also asked if we could get a park view and she said they didn't have any but gave us a view of DD. In fact, we were on the 5th floor directly over the World of Disney store. Great view! We are going back next month and can't wait.

We just got back from staying at the GC (on points ... thank you DVC!) and our total bill was $12 for valet parking. So yes, valet parking is $6 per day, however there is free self parking available.
We were offered the choice of valet or self park when we drove up.

I believe the free self parking is a savings, because if you go to visit Disneyland for the day parking is about $5.

Enjoy life and great vacations!

We just returned from a six night stay at the Grand Californian (2 nights on DVC points) and Califgirl is right - it's $6/day for valet parking and free to self park. BUT, be sure to let them know when you check in if you are going to self-park otherwise they automatically charge you for valet. The self-parking lot is right across the street from the main entrance and was very convenient for us. Also, just like Dodie, we were given wrong information from the valet parking staff! The guy who took our car to the valet lot assured us that there was no additional charge, but when I asked at the desk upon check-in I was told there most definately was a $6/day charge, even for DVC point stays.

Going to DISNEYLAND in April! Going to DISNEY WORLD in June! ºoº
