9 points more a night is worth staying at grand cal. DL instead of DLH ?

Yes!

Well, for me it is. I love the decor of the Grand Californian, and the location is a bit more convenient to the parks than Disneyland Hotel. I've never been impressed with the Disneyland Hotel, though in all fairness, it's been a number of years since I stayed there, and they've probably remodeled at least once since then. Anyway, if you have the points to spare, I'd recommend the Grand Californian.

I will be there very soon! (And, unfortunately, the reduced price was not in effect for when I'm going.)

I think it is worth it. When paying for a night at Grand Californian vs Disneyland Hotel, the difference is just over $100 during peak season (Aug), and around $80 in the regular season (May). If you figure your points are worth $9-10, then the value is just about right.

I don't think I'd ever stay at the Grand Californian if I had to pay cash for it, but I think if I join DVC I would stay there on points.

Another "yes" here! It's a beautiful hotel and much closer to the action-- well worth it IMO.

So are the points lowered offered at a specific time frame? Or were they lowered in general? I'm thinking about heading to DL for Thanksgiving 2006...checked points at DVC member site...are the points there accurate?

Thanks!

Have only seen the rooms at the DLH, and I thought they were very disappointing...we had ressies there and changed last minute, but our friends did stay there. The roooms were SO small, seemed kind of "old" -- actually the entire hotel did to me. The pool was so so. On the other hand, I hear nothing but rave reviews of Grand Calif. and hope to stay there on our next DL trip.

No pics here...but we just returned last week from a 5 day stay at GCH and it was wonderful! We loved the park access and being right in the middle of everything. I would go for it!! The lobby itself is amazing.

We've stayed at the DLH several times and always had a large, nicely appointed room that never seemed old. Most of the rooms at the DLH are larger than a standard hotel room. Nor did the hotel seem old in any way. However, they're still doing some rennovations in one of the towers (although the rennovations may be complete by now). Also, the suites have a lockoff bedroom that Disney rents out as a "regular room" to unsuspecting guests, and those rooms are quite small. If someone is ever placed in one of these, they should insist on being moved to a regular room or receive a discount on their rate.

I think the Neverland pool at the DLH is great and better than the GC pool, but the GC pool is also very nice - it's just a little small in my opinion. And lets face it, a pool themed after the movie Peter Pan is just more fun! :rotfl:

We love all the Disneyland Resort Hotels for different reasons, but in my opinion they're all terrific, it just depends on what style of vacation you want.

If you want to be WOWED when you walk into the lobby, then the GC is the place! :earseek: It is very, very beautiful!

I would have to agree that the GC is worth the extra 9 points per night. Go for it! :cheer2:

i think i will go for it , it wll be 45 more points. we are so use to the theme dvc resorts that i think we may be dissapointed with just a plain hotel. can someone tell me if i can still have 5 people in a grand cal. hotel room?
i booked the DLH for 5 people, i have read you get a single convertable couch but when i booked thru ms they said a roll away bed.

wdwstar - we have stayed at the GC 5 times and about the same at the DLH. The GC is absolutely worth the extra points, in my opinion. If you can at all get a theme park view, it is incredible. We have only used points once and paid cash the rest of the time and gotten a view of Grizzly River Rapids. There are no other U.S. Disney resorts that you can get a view of one of the parks. We also have loved the DD view. The hotel itself is gorgeous and the entry into DCA so handy. The DLH is nice and probably better if you have kids that really want a nicely themed pool. We just booked a trip for February and the GC rooms at this time were almost $400/night for a theme park view. This is with my AP. (We get one PAP at DL for the discounts.) I sure am hoping this changes after the holidays, as it has in years passed. Anyway the GC is luxurious and incredibly convenient. I think you will love it!

Yes. To me the GC is a deluxe plus, while DLH is a deluxe minus.

Another thing to consider is that the monorail will be closing sometime next year, most likely after the summer, for approx. 4-6 months. Guests of the DLH could easily use the monorail, while GC is oh so close to walk to two different parks.

Actually the monorail will be closing for a refurb starting in January. Other than that, I agree with everything you said. :rotfl:

Count me in for another "yes". You just can't beat the location of the GC, expecially if you have kids. My son just loved the DD view! Also, the condition of the hotel just seems to be much nicer IMO.

You can have 5 in a room at GCH. Our room had a daybed, but it wasn't full sized. My DD (11) found it to be perfect. There are also king rooms with bunk beds and a trundle, but again, the bunks & trundle aren't full sized. The last option we were given was an inflatable mattress with a sleeping bag.

We just got back from GCH, but have stayed at both many times. It is definitely a wonderful hotel, but the rooms are on the smaller end. Here is a suggestion also, ask to be close to the elevator. We had a suite for the holiday and it was at the very end of the hall, which is a long hike. Also, the valet takes forever, but other then that, the location is great and so is the staff.

We are staying at the Grand California in June! It was originally a hard decision for us whethet to stay there or at Disneyland Hotel but we stayed at Disneyland Hotel 3 years ago and we liked it but we really liked the look of the Gr. Ca so we decided to splurge and booked 4 nights theme park view at Gr. CA Now with the point reduction I was actually able to change our reservation to 5 nights and it is costing us fewer points than the original 4 nights would have!!!

There is a lot of info about the different Disneyland hotels and many pictures too on the Disneyland board.
