Hey everyone! My DD is going to be graduating from high school soon and I wanted to throw here a graduation party. We are going to Disney in June to celebrate her birthday and graduation but I also wanted to do something special. She is my oldest child so this is my first time going through this. I am trying to get an idea of how long it typically lasts, where I should have it, how low key or upscale it normally is, party ideas, what you did at the event (just a meal or something else), etc. For the graduation itself we are expecting out of town family to fly in so there will be a decent amount of people coming. Was your graduation party mostly friends of your child or more of a family affair? My DD has worked so hard these past four years and will be attending an AMAZING school next year so I want to reward you and show her how much we all love her. I would LOVE to hear your ideas and would appreciate your help! Thanks!

My DD16 is graduating in early June. We don't have a party planned yet, but will probably do a combined relatives/friend party. There is a thread here on the DIS somewhere started by a mom who is planning to have some sort of "candy buffet" at her child's graduation party. That sounds interesting, but I haven't checked out the thread yet.

We are taking her & her best friend to WDW for a week in June. We've booked a 2BR there & the girls will have the studio side to themselves. DD is VERY excited about the trip & couldn't care less if we even have a graduation party here at home. I'm positive that we'll have something though.

Best wishes to your graduating senior & congrats on getting into her amazing college! We are off to visit DD's college tomorrow for one last visit before writing that first check!

I need help also. My son is graduating in June and don't know what to do. I saw the candy buffet and thought that would be fun. :thumbsup2

Wow your daughter is graduating at 16! Nice job. My daughter is graduating at 17 (she skipped a grade) and I am nervous as all get out about her going away to college. Congratulations to all! We will be having a party. We usually do family and friends of the family. We have a cookout and have the pool and set up volleyball and horseshoes. Friends usually have their own parties and then later on that night the kids all get together and go to a place that is rented by the school for their last night together.

Do you know what any of the other kids are doing? My DD's friends are all trying to coordinate so they don't have them at the same time so they can go to each other's parties. It will be both family (stay the long haul) and friends (come and go). We are just having it in our yard, some are doing a K of C hall-type of thing, but she wants an outdoor party. We may rent them a moonwalk and snow cone machine as a last farewell to childhood. We are excited to do a candy buffet and will have appetizers, sandwiches, pasta, etc for food and I just saw a really cute graduation cake and cupcakes at the bakery at our Walmart so I am going to look into that.
