people were all on route 495 going towards Canobe lake yesterday......we had to go that way to get to my brother in laws new home.....and it took three hours to get there......I was not impressed....so what..it was only the 6th consecutive day of heat in the 90s...so the world was going to the beach I guess.....and I was not a happy camper......because we had to pick up an old oak table the truck with NO AC.....had to go....I am sorry New Englanders.....but bumper to bumper traffic was horrible.....took over 40 minutes to get the two miles and go through the toll place

You think it's bad up there do ya?

Come on down to Virginia.....just don't plan on going anywhere too fast if you travel I-95!

I say the entire N.E. Corridor sucks! From Portsmouth, NH (and sometimes Portland--depending on the time of year) to Richmond, VA it's a nightmare on I-95.

I hear ya pumba.....we went to Crane beach in Ispwich MA yesterday, and from Concord, well..."you can't get there from here!!" 93 south to 128 north....that horrible 2 lane stretch of 128 from 93 to 1A in Beverly........YUCK....... fortunately we timed it pretty well and did not hit any real jams...but I'm a white-knuckle driver on 128 anyway  a LONG hot drive in the sun even WITH AC!
Stay home today and have a cold drink...or two ;)

I think I will sit back and put up my feet and rest today......my knuckles were white cause on the way home I was in the jump seats in the truck extended cab......THE NEXT TRUCK......ac and full bench seat.....that is an order......

Marie!!!

I know what you mean!! I live off 495 and it can be heck in either direction North or South!!

That really stinks though!!
hugs!

Marie, get a helecopter....I am talking to ellen about it too :) Its the perfect answer to traffic problems :)

*I* was in that traffic on 495 North yesterday too! I got on at around exit 9 and almost immediately hit traffic between there and Exit 10. There was an accident that was being cleaned up. That took about 45 minutes. Once we were through that we thought we were home free till we got up to about Exit 12. Then forget it....we were stuck there for about another 45 minutes. We originally were heading up to Exit 19 but got off in Mansfield at Exit 13 and went to the mall instead

What was going on yesterday?? Is that usual traffic for a Saturday on 495????

Pumba ~ you should do what I do
95 to 495 to the Mass Pike ~
all before anybody wakes up
I Fly By Night
or more like the wee hours of the morning.
No way am I waiting at the Maine Pike, Mass Pike and NH tolls for hours.
I set my Cruise for 75 mph and steer clearly home.
In fact yesterday it only took me 2 1/2 hours to go from Ocean Park to CT.

BTW ~ did you read about the dead man at the bottom of my street's boardwalk on the beach at Ocean Park?
Nothing like a murder to shatter the serenity and false sense of security of that little town.
It gives me a creepy feeling and I will not walk the beach alone at night for awhile.

128 is definitely fun! I used to commute from Melrose to Lexington doing that whole 93/128 interchange. Even though I had fairly early hours it was still pretty scary driving through there even when it wasnt at its worst. Now its funny, I dont have a commute anymore and I live in Woburn. I can actually see 128 from my house. I love watching the traffic out there sometimes and coutning my blessing that Im not fighting it anymore. In fact Friday afternoon my neighbor and I were floating in my pool commenting on how we would NOT want to be sitting in that traffic.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that traffic!!!

If it makes you feel any better, Ted drives that stretch of 495 every day. It takes HOURS and HOURS for him to get home on Friday nights. 95 through Portsmouth was a nightmare yesterday, too!
Yesterday, we were trying to get to the beach in Kittery and took the "shortcut" through downtown Portsmouth to beat the stop and go traffic on I95! A foreign bicyclist RODE his bike across the street into oncoming traffic and we had to brake VERY hard to prevent from hitting him, and almost got rear-ended. He thanked us by THROWING a bottle at our car!

I'm staying home for the rest of the summer. TOURISTS GO HOME! Do you think they say that about us in Orlando??

Holly

DH, DS10 and I were in the traffic on 495 Fri at 130-4pm. There was no reason for it either, no breakdowns/accidents and no exit was piling up more than the others. We were all so cranky when we finally got to the hotel.
Thank God when we drove home Mon morn it was smooth sailing.
And we had a wonderful family weekend.
