I am going im October and taking DW, DD10 and DS2. My question is what rides will he absolutely hate or be scared of? He is really shy with people he doesn't know and is somewhat not completely sensitive.

my ds hated every ride when he was 2 lol. sorry but the truth. i should say every indoor ride which is most at disney. every time we entered a line and it got dark he FREAKED. he di like dumbo and aladin because they were outside. every kid is different though he is now 4 and still says he does not want to go to disney we go every year and he stayes with grandma. we will try again when he is 5. my advice is do some outside stuff first we didnt do this ans maybe if we did things would have been different.

are you talking about just magic kingdom or all the parks?
my youngest daughter was 2 when we went the first time.
She was so so with the characters...liked them better from a distance.
Snow White was a bit scary...pirates can be at the begining of the ride.
Haunted Mansion is probably out. Most of the other Fantasy land rides will probably be great unless he doesnt like certain kinds of motion.
I would defintely say that the Winnie the Pooh ride is a must. Visiting toon town is always good for toddlers and you can get some fresh fruit their too.
I think when my daughter was 2 she just liked being in the park. We saw all the parades at night with the fireworks and got her mickey bars and a mickey hat and she had a blast. As far as the other parks...it really depends on what types of fears your child may or may not have....some people think little mermaid is scary for a young child....so it just depends.

your going to have a blast either way!!

DS2 is shy and sensitive but he is an absolute handful and sooooo wild. He may do okay on certain rides. The characters are going to be a bust for him. He just comes completely unglued when someone in a costume comes toward him. When my DD10 was his age she just looked at them then at us and gave us a look like "you gotta be kidding, right? He's not for real?" and just stood there to get the picture. She was too brave. My roller coaster buddy. :) DS is wild but a wuss. LOL

As for rides like POTC, can he ride them? Doesnt POTC drop a few feet?

potc has one little drop. he can ride most rides in the mk if he is willing . my ds was a little crazy wild thing at 2 and still is at 4 . i really dont know what was up with him he was so excited about going but after the first ride that was it. he did go on everything because he really had no choice but he put his head down and closed his eyes and just waited for it to be over. hopefully you will have a better expierence!

sorry to hear about the characters being a bust...so much for the character breakfasts :D POTC does have a small drop...but it being in the dark while a skeleton yells "Dead men tell no tales" is probably scarier than the drop.
Alladin and Dumbo are good...but not if he doesnt like heights. Buzz light year is alot of fun...but its also very noisy as its like being in a video game. You can take the boat over to Tom Sawyers island to let him run around and use up some of that energy. And Donalds Duck boat in toon town is another nice play area for him...and Ariels groto is another water play area. And if you need a ride without a line going on the tram in tommorrow land used to amuse my daughter when she was younger..( of course she liked the trams in the parking lot ). What about Mickeys Philarmonic? its a 4d movie though..so he may not like the glasses etc. Its a small world should be no problem...Peter pan can be iffy at that age. It might just be hit or miss for you.

I agree to start with the light, tame rides ... and depending upon how he does, work up from there.

Best bets are the race cars (but get there early since the line can become SO long), Dumbo (ditto on the line), carousel, Small World, Country Bear Jamboree, jungle cruise, Aladdin, Pooh, Mickey's Philharmagic, the train around the whole park ... even Buzz Lightyear is nice and bright. Tomorrowland Transit Authority is very calm, and only has a little bit in the dark.

If those are successful, work up to Pirates (parts are dark though and yes it has a drop in the dark), tea cups, Goofy's Barnstormer, Peter Pan (dark but happy), ... Snow White could be a stretch.

Buy the book about Traveling Disney with Kids. It rates all rides based on kids' scare factors.

I think the best tip is to START with the obviously simple stuff - those listed above plus Toontown Fair. I know folks who have started with something "iffy" and freaked the kids out for the whole trip.

Good luck!

that is exactly what happened with us we started with the great movie ride at mgm forgetting about when the gangster pushes the nice lady driving the train off and starts shooting at everybody. well that was it he was done for the rest of the trip lol we still had a great time!! :flower:

With the older children, we did not take them to MK until 7 & almost5 yrs.

My 2 year old was okay on everything we tried (no adrenalin boosters) EXCEPT:
Buzz Light Year (too loud, to scary)
Pirates (too loud. too dark)
Philharmagic - she was okay until Simba popped out of the screen!
Country Bears - Moose/Buffalo heads on the wall

At 3 1/2, she like everything.

Stay away from the Lilo & Stitch attraction...

Its all going to be about your child. Mine dont like characters but the ONLY ride they have said not again to was Haunted Mansion (they are 2 and 4). I was worried about the barnstormer - but they want to ride that thing so many times that I about have to tie them to me when we go out the exit or else they are right back in line :earseek:

We started slow. Skipped the ones the books said were scary. Luckily, we don't seem to have phobias that some children do (my niece is TERRIFIED of fireworks at times ..but she is doing better and we know how to plan...they go shop while the rest of us watch the show!) We have APs and have been probably 10 times in the last year so we started slowing trying other rides.

I would buy a book on WDW with children, because they do give good reviews of the rides. It also has tons of other tips for getting around with little ones, etc.

Oh - and mine loved Stitch! They think he is a great character (sort of the anti-princess for my boys I guess) and while it gets dark in the ride, I just reached out and held their hands and they were fine.

If you don't know what a ride is about or aren't sure, preview it or ask a CM for details. They will help!

My oldest DD went for the first time at 2 1/2. She did great on almost every ride. We did skip It's Tough to Be a Bug at AK, but we pretty much did everything at MK, including Haunted Mansion. On rides that I thought she might be frightened on, I told her in advance if it was going to be dark or if something might jump out at her. I also got some great tips from Tour Guide Mike on rides with little ones. My oldest must be a daredevil because this last trip at 4 she rode Tower of Terror, Dinosaur, Splash Mountain & Big Thunder Mountain. She was upset because she could not ride Space Mountain or Rockin Roller Coaster. She must get this from Dad because one time on TOT and it was enough for me.

My youngest DD was 18 months when we went this time, and she was fine on everything we rode.

Stay off of Stitch, The Great Movie-not only is there a shoot out, but the alien from the movies aliens is in there. Pirates we didn't have a problem on because I told DD3 in advance about the skeletons in the beginning. Snow white, and Haunted Mansion are probably not good bets either.

First character she saw was eyeore. Was scared until she touched his tail when he turned around, after that no problems, even hugged the Grinch at US!

we took our boys just before they turned 3. when we first arrived we took them on the pooh ride, because they loved pooh - it scared them. anything that was indoors - peter pan, pooh, all of them scared the boys except Its a Small World. They loved the outdoor stuff, except that one of them did not like Goofys Barnstormer. But, he still does not like rollercoasters at age 5.

We rode IASW over and over until the kids got used to inside rides, afterwhich they rode pooh and peter pan and enjoyed them.

Whats so scary about Snow White? ( :guilty: never been)

The part that the ride focuses on is Snow White running away from the palace, through the woods in the storm. It IS called Snow White's SCARY Adventure - but it would be easy to miss the scary part if you were not really focusing on the sign.

Its loud and dark and she is frightened, etc. My 2 and 4 year old have ridden it a few times, but prefer Peter Pan and Pooh over it.

Wow. Thanks. LOL Did they forget to add a bit of Disney to that Grimm Fairy Tale? LOL

We took my DD just shortly after she turned 2. She hated the face characters (Cindy, Ariel, etc). Loved, loved, loved all the other characters. As for rides. She was a riding fool! Loved - Dumbo, Pooh ride, she couldn't get enough of the teacups, goofys barnstormer, Philharmagic and It's Tough to be a Bug. She didn't like Fantasmic, Peter Pans Flight or Haunted Mansion. So we didn't even try Pirates of the Carribean.

One thing is for sure, is seeing Disney through a toddlers eyes is awesome! :earboy2:
