I'm hosting a "what do you do with rotisserie chicken" potluck in July. In Aug. we will do "when it is too hot too cook."

Have done "what you serve over rice," "served on a baked potato," and "soup night."

For soup night I supplied a couple types of bread and drinks. For baked potato night I had the spuds, a huge green salad, and a simple dessert. You get the idea. . .

Have you got an idea for a potluck theme?

How about a Heritage dish? Like dishes made from your ethnic heritage, for example, i am mostly Native American so i would make a dish that my ancestors would have made or ingredients indigenous to where i " came" from.

Or " disney delights" Lots of Disney recipes out there. Is your circle of friends/ family Disneyfied? lol

Salads? There are tons of salads that do not involve lettuce. Our friends to a meat fest, everyone brings a different meat. Italian-? Pizza? Appetizers only?

hawaiian themes

down home southern cooking ..corn,black eye peas, corn bread :) anything with bacon grease LOL

for july 4th. red white and blue.. its amazing what people will show up with.

state night.. assign a state to each person. have them bring a typical dish.
ie va.. bring ham!
pa.. cheese steak
idaho. potatos of course

What about using colors as a theme? Like bring only red white and blue food for July. Or draw numbers to get a page number and they have to bring a recipe from that page in a cookbook.

For the desserts only night you could bring a "cake" a meatloaf frosted with mashed potatoes as the entree. Although it's not really a dessert you could at least have an entree to serve.

Fondue.

Not a theme for the food but I remember my parents going to a party many many many years ago that was a come as you are party. The hostess called to invite everyone and you were to wear whatever you had on at the time of the phone call. Of course this was before cell phones, etc. I have always remembered because I thought it was funny: one woman came wearing her gardening gloves & hat and one guy came in a towel!
