I got my first postcard for deluxe resorts for July and August for $114 per night.

When I called they only had the Poly and the Boardwalk Inn but the rate was $210. I guess the only resort at $114 for my dates was the AKL but it is not available there.

I have very specific dates as I already have airfare. Anyone have any idea if it's worth it to keep checking? I would grab the Poly in a heartbeat for $114 but somehow I don't think this is going to happen.

Thanks,

Joanne

I'd keep checking!::yes::
That seems kind of odd that they would send out post cards if they did not have an awful lot of availability.
Was there a long time span between the time you got the post card and the time you called?

It is common that the lead price is just for AKL and WL.

I called the very same day that I got the postcard.

I disagree. Postcards are obviously not scams, or we wouldn't have posts to read from people who have used them successfully.

However, I do believe there are only a certain number of rooms set aside at the price listed on the postcard. AND, depending on the dates of your visit, the lower rates may only be available at a small number of resorts. Afterall, there is no need for them to block rooms at a discount for all dates and all resorts -- if some resorts are already booked to a certain percentage of maxiumum occupancy during your dates of stay, then there is no need for them to discount that resort for those dates.

Not that this is a doable answer for you, but I bet that if you were able to rearrange your dates, you'd find a room at the resort & price on your postcard. UNLESS, of course, ALL of the rooms blocked for this offer have already been booked for all dates. JMHO.

I just got a postcard for my dates (9/13 - 9/23). It says it's for value, and I've got the Beach Club and Poly booked. I HOPE HOPE HOPE that they have availability.

I'd do it myself, but Dreams Unlimited is handling my reservation and my agent is out of the office until late tonight. I E-Mailed her backup but haven't heard back yet.

I'm getting so antsy, I think my skeleton is going to jump out of my skin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even as a Florida resident I have received these postcards. Called last year about one and was told that the $119 rate listed for "deluxe" was only referring to the AKL and WL. Never to the Boardwalk, where we wanted to stay. They did offer a discount to the Boardwalk, as well as all the other resorts, but it was a percentage off -- much in line with the Fl Resident rates or the AP rates.

Postcard rates are the way to go if you don't have an AP or aren't a resident of a specific state. I wish everyone who wanted one could receive them.

I have heard of these postcards being used for a level other than the one stated. You might still be able to find a good deal on a moderate for your dates and have them apply it. I've read where someone got a card for values and applied it to a moderate.

I got mine for a deluxe about 6 weeks ago and used it on our WL ressie (2 rooms). I was even able to use it with a package.

They've been sending these things out for weeks and have probably just booked up all of the rooms for your time. The $114 is only for AKL and WL. My understanding is that it is basically the AP rate without requiring an AP.

in the 12 1/2 years we have been going to disney, i have never ever received a postcard for a special rate. but, two weeks ago i received an email for ak at a very good price. i think it was for 125/night.
i think i received the email coupon since i had received info to be on a survey for disney.

who is wishing she got a postcard:bounce:

Well, I called again today and was offered WL, woods view for $134. Now I am going to agonize over whether to stay here or go with my original Dolphin booking of $149.

I'm only going for 5 nights so I don't want to split the stay. Any thoughts, anyone?? What would you choose?

Thanks,

Joanne

 HI i JUST REC'D a post card today for 49.00 value resort end of Aug and Sept.. I can't go then due to the start of school for the kids but they did give me a MOD for 84.oo in July I could have gotten 79.00 value in July hmmmmmmmm hard choice LOL.
They did have 49.00 available for the dates they sent me I had her check.:wave2: princess:

Joanne~~

Does your Dolphin booking of $149 include the $10 resort fee they tack on daily?

I have stayed at the Swan before, not the Dolphin. We do love the Epcot area. If you love Epcot and MGM, my advice is to stick with your Dolphin booking this time. It is so convenient to walk to Epcot or take a leisurely boat ride to MGM.

If you are going to MK more often, then switch to WL. You got an AP rate for that woods view room. We have not been there yet, (see my counter!) but soon we will be. We are very excited to try out the Lodge.

Good luck making your decision.

I got a mailing yesterday - I wouldn't exactly call it a post card since they were offering absolutely squat. The only rate mention was starting at $144 per night for moderate resorts Sept 30-Oct 30, which are the normal prices anyway. Thanks but no thanks. Even though we're planning to go in Oct, I'm holding out on booking because I know better.

ADisneyGirl~

I actually have to pay $199 one of the nights as the teacher rate was not available.

I have figured out the totals with all taxes and resort fees added:

Dolphin $935

WL $747

This is a difference of $188. We do like the Epcot area and have stayed at the Swan and LOVE the heavenly beds.

There is a possibility that I could use points to upgrade at the Dolphin to the Club Level which would include food that could help to even out the costs.

I am interested in the WL because I have heard so many rave reviews out there. It looks beautiful and is convenient to the MK area.

HELP!!

I would LOVE to know how they do their mailers. My entire family has been going for years and none of us has ever received these great deals with the postcards. I'm going at the end of August and would love to get a better rate!

Joanne - I'm a resort hopper so I would probably do a 3night/2 night combo. (I know you said this isn't an option for you) I'd plan it for a day where I know I would be going to one of the parks for most of it and have them transfer my bags. Then, when I needed a break, I would then go to the resort to check in.

Like the others stated, if you are choosing between the two, where would you rather be? MK area or Epcot/MGM area? Tough decision but a nice one to have!

Thanks for all of the replies!!

Mary~

You are right, it is a nice decision to be able to make, if not a frustrating one!

momtoprincess~

I just made my PS's a week ago so the Disney powers that be know that I'm going to be there. They also have on record that my last Disney stay was at a deluxe(AKL). That is my best guess as to why I received the deluxe hotel offers on the postcard. They are trying to entice me from off site(they don't know I'm at the Dolphin) to one of their own properties. And frankly, it's working, because I'm tempted!!!

My Dreams agent came through and I saved over $500 on my reservation!!! WOO HOO!

I'm so happy that I finally was able to use the postcard. I've gotten a couple that I had to just throw away, and it seemed so wasteful! :(

Joanne....If you pick WL ....I'll warm up a room for you....as we got the $114 deal at the WL from the 6th to the 13th.....just prior to all my S/D buddies going down:(

Anyway....I can't wait....I hear sometimes that they upgrade to better views for free....I figure I can live with a standard view...and if I get lucky then WHooooo!!

Any way good luck....If it wasn't so much higher for me to stay at S/D this trip I would but I can get 2 rooms at WL for $1700 and it would be double that at S/D....
