I recently took a phlebotomy course at the local community college. It ran from Sept.-Dec (15 week certificate course). I did my internship at a hospital not is not a convenient commute, and they hired me! So, I am now working per diem at a hospital with a 45 minute commute each way. The pay is not great, but it is extra income for us.

I have been told since I was a student, from my professor to my co-workers that nobody will even look at me until I have one year experience. That's understandable in this profession.

My Dh was laid off in January, and has been looking everyday for a job. While he is searchig for himself, he will look around for phlebotomy postitions. Because of this, I have sent my resume out to three companies, not really expecting anything.

Late yesterday afternoon, I got a voice mail from one of the companies, looking to set up an interview with me. She gave me the name and the phone number of my contact person. I called and left a message.

I have been waiting all day and she hasn't called me back. Is this normal? I mean, they called me first. I hope she calls me back, because this particular job is what I wanted even when I was in school. It is doing home draws.

The waiting is killing me!

I understand and sympathize with your anxiety. I have been looking for employment now for 3+ months and have sent out tons of applications and resumes. Every time the phone rings I get excited hoping it's and employer who wants to schedule an interview (99 times out of 100 it's not). I do have an interview scheduled on Thursday but this has been a very long process.

Good luck to you, did you give your home # or cell #

They will definitely call you back if they reached out to you. Good luck and keep us posted!

She never called me yesterday. I guess I will call again today and hope she answers, otherwise, I'll be leaving another voicemail and play the waiting game.

I think she will call you back but it probably will take some time. I am also looking for a new job. I have been on my current job for 6 years but they will not offer me a flexible schedule as I am in the middle of going back to college to get my masters in forensic science. I have been sending out resume after resume in hopes of landing a 3rd shift job where I can go to school during the day, this would be a dream come true. Alot of the classes that I need arent offered at night so this is my problem. All of the jobs that I have applied for involve a decrease in pay so I am wondering what the person on the otherside (the company that I am applying for) is thinking- what is this lady doing?
Anyways good luck!!

UPDATE: I called her today and she answered the phone. It just gets better and better! They are looking for a 3rd shift person. That is the shift I want! It would take me forever to get a 3rd shift position at the hospital I am currently at.

I will be a traveling phlebotomist to nursing homes. So my patients will be elderly. Bonus, because the hospital I work at now, a huge percentage of the inpatients are elderly. So I have experience with drawing elderly patients.

I have an interview at 9:30 Friday morning.

Good luck. It's always nice when things fall into place. :goodvibes
