The ice storm here in the Upstate of South Carolina knocked our power out for 80 plus hours. We had gas logs to heat a portion of our house, but no lights and no way to cook and no way to get a warm shower. One night my dearest friend made lasagna and had us over to eat. By the next night, we were going a little stir crazy facing another night of darkness. I called another friend who turned out not to be home and I was telling her husband how I would check into a hotel, but all the rooms were already full with others who had no power. That's when he said "I have the hotel for you!!" Turns out his company pays for a room for him in Charleston 7 days a week and it sits empty on the weekends when he comes home. He gave us a key and said that we would have a full complimentary breakfast each morning - bacon, eggs, the whole works. In addition, he gave us tickets for free drinks at the bar. We left immediately - it is only a 3 hour drive. It had an indoor heated pool, jacuzzi, and was FREE!!!!! My friend's husband is an angel. Instead of 2 more nights of cold and darkness, we had a weekend in Charleston and got to see all the great Christmas lights on James Island. I have the best friends and what great husbands they have!
