That's right, I spotted WonkaKid himself watching the cane-making process when I returned to the store to claim my candy cane. What an extra treat! My sister and I chatted with him for quite some time, as he knows a lot about how it's done at Disneyland. As you would expect, he has an impressive inventory of little-known facts that he has gleaned over the years from talking to the people involved. What a lucky encounter!

Here's me, Rob, and Cathy (my sis).

What a great picture of all of you! Everyone is just so happy...its why I love Disneyland so much. How can you NOT be happy? Well I suppose I've seen my share of unhappy people, but those are usually the minority.

Too bad my trips never fall on a Sunday. One of these days it will happen and my eyes will be peeled for @WonkaKid 😀

Great!! Nice photo!! Did you get a candy cane?

That's so neat! What fun that you ran into each other. Great picture :)

How was the candy cane?
I haven't actually tried it. I brought it back for someone else! The fun was about getting it, not so much eating it LOL.

We weren't even trying for one. We just happened to be walking by as they were setting up the queue for signing in and decided, "Why not?" so we were close to the top of the list. I like this system of giving your mobile # and going about your day. They said you had 15 min to return once you got the text, which seems a little tricky with the length of the lines and we weren't sure when they would start notifying people. We went on HMH and checked out the treehouse, then my DD texted me that she was doing a set at Plaza Inn so we headed there to see if we could spot her. We did! They were doing a character meal which was $47 and we didn't want to pay that much to see her, but there she was out on the patio! We waved and she motioned us over to a space between the shrubs so we got to give her a hug. A staff member hurried over and told us we couldn't interact unless we had a reservation but my dd whispered to him and he smiled and stepped back. We just gave her a quick hug so she could get back to entertaining the kids and kid-at-heart adults.

I'll have to get a candy cane one of these days and see for myself.

That's so awesome you had a chance to see your daughter :)

Great photo! @WonkaKid can you share what you know about making the candy canes? I was surprised that my candy canes were softer than I expected.
I don’t remember exactly what we talked about. But from what I recall, it was mainly about how they have to keep the preparation room at (something like) 104° so that the candy canes don’t solidify too soon. Also, they put the candy base on a hook and stretch it in part to incorporate air, thereby making it lighter in color and texture. Or so I understand. Lastly, I believe that the table is cooled so that once they place the finished canes on it, they begin to harden. I’m sure that there’s much more to the process but these are the few things that have been shared with me.

So glad you got to share the moment with your daughter...that would be so cool! I know you’re a proud mama!
