I am in need of some additional items to add to some goody bags. Our H.S. marching band will be leaving in a few weeks to march at WDW! We are in Ohio, so a looooong bus trip is in our future! We get on the bus, drive, eat dinner, switch bus drivers & drive (maybe sleep?), drive, eat breakfast and arrive at Animal Kingdom!

I will be using a gallon zip lock bag. So far my items are:

1 or 2 water bottles
Wisps (tiny toothbrushes)
hand wipes
gum and candies (nothing chocolate)
? ? ? ?

I also wanted a one or two page "summary" about each park. Out of the 60+ kids going only a handful have ever been! About half have never left the state and a bunch of the kids have never stayed in hotels.

Our DD16 has been several times :wizard: and has been imparting her knowledge to the masses! Anyone have any ideas or a file that would give some info without overwhelming the kids?

TIA!

Put some sunscreen in those bags! It will only take one bad burn to ruin that trip. I took a group of 100 adults to WDW and made up similar type goodie bags. I ordered bags from Oriental Trading for less then $1 each and they used the bags all week long. It ended up being a really good buy. I also went to our local Clinique counter and asked if they had any sunscreen samples. It took a couple of days, but the manager got 50 small bottles of sunscreen for me for free!
You should check out touringplans.com for some 1-page write ups about each park.
Have fun! I did that band trip 2x when I was in High School. We drove from Maryland so I know what you mean about a long bus trip!!! It is one of my best memories as it was my first trip to Disney.

I would put Chapstick or lipbalm. Being the band and marching in Disney, I remember how red and dry my lips were. I didn't want to spend my money on the lip balm though. I would highly recommend it, especially for those trumpet players!

Sunscreen
Lip balm
Small handsanitizers
some healthy snacks, like nuts -- those packages for 2/$1 at gas stations, you can get at BJs for a lot less; dried fruits, granola bars, peanut butter crackers (check for allergies)
disposable cameras
hand lotions

my daughter brings a book and/or puzzle books on trips. She also brings a deck of Uno cards, and Apples to Apples, Scattergories, trivia cards and small white boards to play pictionary on (we have a disney version that she takes). :thumbsup2

Band trips were always fun but we never drove that far wow...anyway the one thing I remember that my friends and I loved to do on the bus was to color. I know we were way too old for that but hey we did it every year. So how about one or those 4 packs of crayons and the little coloring books. Or like word search or activities.

Another thing we did was 2 people on each bus (we had like 4 busses) would collect so much from each kid (like $5) then go to Sam's club and buy a bunch of soda/drinks so you always had a drink on the bus. Worked out great.

DS15 just returned from a Band Trip to Orlando. Their bus ride was 27+ hours, counting the stops.

One thing they did that was cool... right before or after a stop, when all of the kids should have been awake... an adult would give some info... like how fastpass works, the most popular rides, trivia, etc. DS said it was kind of neat.

They participated in a Band Contest there... and it appeared that their whole itinerary was put together by a touring company. They gave the kids a daily itinerary, and within the itinerary was a 1-2 paragraph blurb about each place they were visiting... Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hard Rock Cafe, etc. I don't know if the kids read them, but I thought it was a good way to get a bit of information to them.

As for your goody bags, I'd add a salty snack of some kind.

I hope they have a fantastic trip!

Walgreens has those little puzzle/activity books 3/$1 (usually with a coupon in their ad). That might keep them occuppied a little while. And they usually have Disney versions.

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Have decided to also do a trivia question when we stop, witha smal prize. Hopefully this will get the kids back on the bus faster!

cheap visors that fold up (painter type) if you can find. The sun can be brutal.

Word Searches.

Here's a link to a site where you can create your own word searches. You can theme them to whatever you like-Disney, Animal Kingdom, what you may see on the road, People on the trip, Band instruments, etc.

I just did a quick one for Animal Kingdom-I put 64 words in the puzzle. I put in the lands of AK, the characters you might see, the animals, the rides, the restaurants, etc. You could do these and award small prizes. The possibilities are endless. It only takes a few minutes to make one.

I would include some bug repellant in those bags. I would give them some of those individual wipes in foil packets. We haven't been bitten many times while at WDW but the only place we were bitten was AK. Let everyone know that if they do get bites, first aid in all the parks has an ointment (gel) to put on them. Something they also have , that many don't know about, is those small tubes of contact lens solution. Very handy to know, especially at the water parks.

Have fun!

Keep it simple. Remember alot of the kids will bring their own items so while it sounds like a great idea to add travel size items in the goody bag they will most likely not be used and it can get expensive for the travel sizes. You might be better off buying a large bottle of sunscreen and have it ready in the morning and at check in time in the afternoon in the parks. We would also keep a cooler full of water and drinks so when we stopped we had it cold for the kids. They could take one each morning if they wanted.

Bandaids for possible blisters

And just a little side note..... as a band trip sponsor survivor. DON'T sit in the back of the bus close to the restroom. It will start to smell after a while :snooty:
