Good Stuff

It was an awful weekend for many of us. I think we could use some good stuff. Anyone have good news or are you celebrating something? Post it here.
I’m celebrating Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday. Also, my heart test was normal!
I was so happy when Mr. Van Dyke reached his birthday.

I found the perfect last minute gifts for my sister and BIL, and they are actually going to be here on Christmas (she works in a hotel, so we often have to celebrate before or after the holiday). Won’t post here on the off chance one of them reads it, but I anticipate much laughter when those gifts are opened. Although I doubt anything will top the year I accidentally wrapped an empty box for my sister and put it under the tree for her to open. We all laughed for days over that one, between the confused look on her face and the horrified look on mine! It nice when you can find just the perfect thing to give someone and they didn’t even realize they needed it until they receive it. Can’t wait!

My son is coming home from college tomorrow for almost a month and I can’t wait to have some family time all together. My daughter sings at Epcot on Friday in the candelight procession with her school choir. We were at Disney this past weekend too with friends for a monorail crawl to check out all the holiday decorations, bars and good food, it was a blast. Two weekends at Disney is a great start to our holiday celebrations.

I have 7 or so bluejays that come to our second story flower pots/railing planters for unsalted roasted peanuts every day. They are lovely birds and can see us from the tree, when we sit down with coffee they land in the tree and call to us to feed them.

I have been having a rough time so I didn't have flowers, funny how the bluejays just sort of showed up to share their color with me

We decorated for Christmas this weekend; mid-December is when we always do it. It’s a joy to see things looking so festive. :santa:

DH snuck away for a week to golf in Mexico; I know he’s enjoying himself and I have some much needed time on my own until DS gets home from school on Saturday. I’m working the rest of the week and then off for a nice long break. I’m meeting a dear friend for dinner tonight and I’m excited to see her.

Lots and lots of good things! :lovestruc

I made a random stop at Walgreens yesterday for some superglue. I ran into a family friend I've known for a little over 28 years that I haven't seen in a long time. We had the most wonderful time catching up ... right in the middle of the holiday section. If I timed it just a little bit differently or picked a different aisle to head to the register, I would have totally missed her.

Where did you go on the monorail crawl? What do you recommend? DH and I will be staying at SSR for 4 nights in January for a vacation without park tickets. A monorail crawl might be fun... and nobody has to drive!

Also... how amazing to hear/see your DD sing in the Candlelight Processional!

I’m celebrating progress, health-wise and life-wise, and the blessing of my family who keep me grounded and grateful. I’m also really thankful for the people who make hard seasons lighter. And honestly, for laughter lately… it helps more than people realize. 🎄🥰

The best way to do this is bus over to MK and then hop on the monorail or in our case we took the boat to Poly since it was more direct with less stops. We wanted to get on the list for trader Sam’s at the end of the night as our finale but it was already closed when we got there at 6. So we pivoted and decided to just start and went to the outside patio of trader Sam’s instead. It has the same menu but except for the pearl (my favorite of their drinks) they don’t come in the cool tiki mugs like they do inside. They had a singer outside however who was singing Hawaiian songs and threw some Christmas ones in. There we got a drink and the Kailua pork tacos. Then we walked over to the new poly tower, we got drinks to go (non-alcoholic for the ladies to not over do it) and enjoyed the beautiful lobby and got leis.

Next we walked back to the poly lobby and got on the monorail for next stop at GF. There we got on the waitlist for Enchanted rose which they quoted as 45 minutes but only took 15 so that was nice. We just enjoyed the lobby and took pictures by the tree while we waited. There we had a few of the appetizers - charcuterie, cheese plate, truffle fries (the best) hummus (least favorite) and more drinks and water. Hopped back on the monorail and went to steakhouse 71 and got lucky it wasn’t too crowded, but it was 9:45 and the kitchen has last call at 10. So we ordered their yummy stack burger and carved it up to share as we wanted just a little bit more food but the drinks were also taking up a lot of space too. We made some friends at the bar and had a good time closing the place out at 11. We had hoped to get over to WL too but nothing worked have been opened so we ordered a minivan back to the room. You could also easily walk back to the MK bus stop and take it right back to your resort too. It was so much fun and nobody was drunk as most of us only had 3 alcoholic drinks each. I brought some liquid IV packets in case we over did it and we all had one before going off to bed to avoid a hangover. I recommend starting earlier around 4 so you can enjoy even more time at each resort.

Reading this thread instead of the news. Thank you, everyone, for sharing!

We booked our December 2026 bounceback this morning! Yay! And DH's stepson is coming to stay with us during his school break on Thursday. We always love having him here.

Also, it's not snowing--first time in days!

Wonderful news about your heart test!
Passed all my final exams!
Congratulations 🎉
It's 3:53am and I WOKE UP ALIVE not dead -- I'm serious
I hear ya!
I’m grateful every morning that I woke up and that my DH woke up. Life is an incredible blessing.
My good news is that I only have 3 more work days and I’m retiring.
That’s great - congratulations 🎉

I love reading about good news!

My good news is….

* DD22 finished her first semester of her doctorate program (she’s going to school to become a doctor of occupational therapy) with amazing grades - we are so incredibly proud of her. She comes home on the 23rd and I can hardly wait to hug her ❤️

* My mom, who was diagnosed with a terminal lung disease in March, is still with us to celebrate another Christmas. In the spring, we didn’t know if she’d still be with us, because this lung disease was progressing rapidly. She decided to try a drug that is 50/50 for slowing the progression down, and it must be working, because she’s still here. She’s on 24 hour oxygen, but she’s still here - thanks be to God! ❤️

My good stuff starts with something bad. Yesterday I fell while running - just tripped on uneven sidewalk, but I ate it pretty hard, and banged up my hands mostly. I was a few blocks from home at the time, but in an area I run in a lot. Anyway, the nicest people stopped to help me, including a man I had passed earlier walking his dog and the lady across the street, who invited me in, let me clean myself up, gave me bandaids and antiseptic. I was such a wreck - broken glasses and all. When I was resonably treated, her son gave me some little candy canes to make me feel better, then she drove me home! I don't know that we expect kindness like that anymore, but there it was - just helping someone who needed help. Thank you to those people who kept me calm and helped me out - you are all amazing!

Also, I'm okay. It looks worse than it is I think, but the flats of my hands are pretty raw from a skid on the concrete, and my hip is pretty bruised where I landed on my keyring - and bent it!
