I normally buy Stride Rite shoes for me son but a month ago I spent $35 on a brand new pair and honest to god, they are completely falling apart. The straps on them are horrible and all but one have come apart at the seams and we have had to sew them back together. I don't want to be spending $35 a month on a pair of shoes.

Anyone know of a good brand of shoe that comes in wide widths but stands up to kids and the way they beat on their shoes?

We had the same problem with a pair of Stride Rite's last year. We had only had them about a month and I paid $45 for them, so I was upset. So, I took them back to the store. I didn't have my receipt, but they were able to look up my purchase in the computer (as my local store records your info at each purchase) and replaced them for free, no questions asked.

She did say that you had 30 days to do this...I think I was at day 31, but she did it for me anyway. The second pair did last longer.

It seems my 4 yo son rips through shoes no matter the brand, but if I pay top dollar for them I expect them to last more than a month!!

Take them back to Striderite and they will replace them. 'You do not need a rreciept.

I have had good luck with Lands End. My 8yo is horribly hard on shoes (sneakers especially) She has a pair of treckers that are still kicking after 4 months...thats a record!

I get my kids' shoes (wide and extra wide widths) from New Balance. I usually order them direct from New Balance.

The only shoes that last more than a couple of months for DD are Land's End (she does have wide feet--many of their styles are availale in wide through mail order--I think Sears only stocks the more common sizes). She can get a school year of wear out of a couple of rotating pair and then I get her two pair of sandals for the summer.

I have found that Lands End shoes run very wide. Even their medium width is quite wide on my daughter's feet. I have had very good luck with them lasting a season, and not wearing out. In fact I have even been able to pass a few pairs down to my younger DD.
It's worth a look- I think they have some sales running now.

I would definitely take the shoes back to Stride Rite and see how the second pair do. My son also has wide feet but he's worn nothing but Stride Rite and we've never had a problem so hopefully the first pair was a fluke or maybe it was the design of the shoe. Good luck!

Yikes! We love Stride Rite as well, but also love New Balance too. We also order directly from New Balance as well.

Good luck, Tiger

I like Jumping Jacks, and we just got some See Kai Run shoes. They seem to be wide in the toe box as well. I like to use flexible soles, so these brands work for me. We didn't care for Preschoolians.
We like Tsukihoshi for tennis shoes. :dance3:

My son has very wide chubby feet and we have always had good luck with Stride Rite. I would bring back the pair that you purchased and see what they can do for you.

I recently bought my son a very cute pair of Umi sandals. They are even more expensive than Stride Rite, but we got them on sale for around $40. They don't have wide widths per se, but it is a very wide shoe.

I have tried Preschoolians before with my daughter (who has skinny feet) but the customer service was so bad that I wouldn't order from them again. To be honest, it was over a year ago, so maybe that has been resolved. Still, with my little fat footed baby, I like to be able to actually get him to try the shoes on before buying, and as far as I know, the Preschoolians are only online.
