Hello fellow DISers!

I need some of your wisdom, especially from you Disney parents out there. DH and I are heading to DL in just 9 days and it looks as though some friends of ours and their 5 yo DD will be joining us. For our first night, we'd like to meet for dinner in DTD. I was considering 3 restaurants: RFC, GK, and STC, but the little one might be frightened of the RFC, so now it is down to two. I know GK is a character meal, but is dinner at STC one too? There seems to be about a $5 per adult difference between the buffets. Has anyone done both who could share their thoughts? Is the food that much better at GK? Does something else really make GK stand out? DH loves the GCH so I was leaning towards STC until I read the menu and the GK menu sounded a little better. There is also the option of ordering off the STC menu, but it looks pretty expensive. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me.

Storyteller's does not have a Character meal for dinner. At STC, you can do the buffet or order from the menu, which may appeal more to the adults.

Goofy's just does the buffet, but there are characters there all day. The kids might enjoy this more.

I thought both buffets were good, especially the desserts! It just depends on how much you want characters.

I have done both Goofy's and Storytellers- very different. If the child is young enough to be frightened of Rainforest Cafe I would strongly recommend Goofy's- it is better tailored to the average little kid but still highly enjoyable for adults.

Has the 5 year old been to a Rainforest Cafe before? If not, is it possible to try to get to one now? Hmm, 9 days, not much time.

First time DS went to one, we had to leave before our food arrived. DS and DH went to the mall play area while I got the food boxed up and paid. But then a month later we went to the RFC at DTD and DS was fine. We were sitting further in the local RFC, more surrounded by the wildlife. But at RFC at Disney, we were closer to the front, near the big huge fishtanks, and it wasn't as immersive and wasn't as noisy. He did fine that time. And he was only 3 for each of those visits.

My DD6 loves RFC, we've been a few times since she was 3.

Goofy's kitchen would be a lot of fun for the 5 y.o. and I have heard that they are pretty good about fun and not-too-invasive interaction with adults too.

Rainforest is good for a group because there's so much variety on the menu. If you think your child would be afraid of all the animals and sounds, you can request a table on the patio. It's much quieter and there's no theming out there. You do have to walk through the restaurant to get there but it's not too bad.

We went to Rainforest twice on our trip last August. Just be sure to have a reservation. Otherwise, it can be a long wait!

If the 5 year old is deathly afraid of thunderstorms, don't do it. Otherwise, I think they will be okay.

Hey everyone, thanks for the great replies. Just found out that our friends can't make it after all. But I do appreciate all the great feedback. Hope everyone has a magical day!
