Has anyone every gotten really good rates on Allegiant from Portsmouth NH to Sanford? Seems like everytime I check they're about $119 each way.

Guess it's all relative because out of Syracuse that would be good! ;)
A couple of years ago we flew TMA into Sanford for about $99 each way and that's the best we got.

:wave2: I am just next door in Durham. DS goes to BHS.
I have checked them off and on and the thing that I don't like is their schedules. I have to say you can do better with Jet Blue although not a direct flight. We always end up with Delta because DH flies with them through work.
Wouldn't it be awesome if the Brunswick NAS became an airport? I can't see not using the runway for some kind of plane service.

I got $39 one-way in Oct 05 but that was when they were first starting service in Portsmouth, haven't seen rates that low since.

Thanks for the replies. I will just keep an eye on allegiant. Nice to hear from others from Maine. Yah,that would be WEIRD if Brunswick NAS ever used its runway for commercial flights. The end of the runway is literally like 1/4 mile from my house. That would be crazy to drive 1 mile to get on a plane to fly to Florida!!! :rotfl:

Not from by you but, we are flying into St Pete on Allegiant the rates were better. 69 vs 109 It is about 1 1/2 hr drive.

Kae

Sorry they don't fly into St Pete for you, I should have looked first.

It is gonna be strange not having the base there. I have lived in the area all of my life ( I work in Cooks Corner) and still can't get it to sink in. Good luck on the airfare.

Allegiant is terrible.....................they canceled our flights in oct and didn;t tell us till 3 weeks before then we had to scramble and pay top dollar on SW..I would NEVER fly them again

I just had to say HI NEIGHBORS!!! I live in Bath.

Check out the announcement that AirTran is going to start flights out of Portland in the very near future (starting June 7th.) It was on the 6pm news last night.

press release from air tran: http://www.airtran.com/portlandmepress.aspx

They are going to have direct to Orlando flights once a week at start-up and a possibility of more if the need is there.

Better than driving to Manchester and nor quite as good as an airport at BNAS (my longtime dream and looking less likely every day.)

That is awesome news.:thumbsup2 Just goes to show how business at PWM
is growing. The article says it will start seasonal business. Did you notice that? I hope not just seasonal. That gives us more choices for our flights in April 2008.
As far as BNAS goes, the runways are long enough for large passenger jets. Even if they did like Pease and ran one or two passenger airlines out a couple times a week. To not use the runways is a total waste.:confused3 Even Federal Express or similar would be ok.

The CEO for Air Tran was on the interview I saw last night and he said Seasonal meant they were going to do it for the summer season and see what happens. If the demand is good they could continue and hopefully expand service, if the demand is not there then "business decisions would have to be made." (It sounded like the seasonal part was for the florida flight only and that the connector flights were more permanent.)

As far as BNAS- they said in the Times Recors last week that a commercial passenger service is unlikely because of the security upgrades and lack of terminal that would be HUGE cost issues.

They went on to recommend fed-ex or UPS or even charter flight operations so the runway could still be a contributor to the local economy.

Even if the direct service to Orlando doesn't stay we still have another option. We have flown out of Boston before and were too tired to drive home so we have decided we will pay alittle extra to fly out of PWM. So we are used to changing planes and actually like the chance to stretch our legs. We will keep an eye on Air Tran and it's fares.

As for BNAS, I didn't think about what would need to be added for commercial flights. But Fed EX or UPS would work. They have the new hangers that would be useful.
