Good places to eat in Niagara Falls, Ontario

Hi everyone,

We have a quick weekend trip planned to Niagara Falls at the end of this month, staying on the Canadian side. We are in need of suggestions for reasonably priced places for lunch and dinner. We'll have a car and we'd prefer something "local" and unique, not a chain. We can get that at home enough as it is. :-) Kid friendly or at least kid tolerant is a plus and we're not picky in slightest. We like trying new things. Thanks in advance!

P.S. I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I couldn't tell from the board name if it was for people planning trips to Canada or for Canadians planning trips to Disney. :-)

Mama Mia's is a good choice. Stay away from Al Macs! They will over charge you. They would not let us bring milk in for our daughter when she was a baby unless we bought their $4.00 glass there.

We also very much enjoyed Zappi's. They have a signature dish called the "pizza burger" that is sooooo good. Its basically a homemade sausage patty sandwiched between two slices of their handmade pizza. So yummy (and sooooooooo fattening ::yes:: ........but we won't think about that ;)).

And I will agree wholeheartedly with Tortuga Rob. Run in the opposite direction from Al Mac's.

Check out the Flying Saucer Restaurant, family friendly and lots of fun!

Oh man I remember the flying saucer from when I lived in the area. Basically if you want to save money drive away from the Clifton hill area those are the most expensive. Denny's on Lundy's lane is also usually easy on the budget. If you want one the kids will love there is a rainforest cafe on Clifton hill. But that will be a little more $ since its a tourist trap. I'm trying to think of more for you but it's been 7 years since I lived there and when we ate out we usually went somewhere in st Catharine's. As a local you try and avoid the tourist areas lol.

A great place to go is the Blue Line Diner their breakfasts are amazing. They are a little off the beaten path 4424 Montrose Rd, but well worthh checking them out. It is a local gem that the tourists are just starting to find. heck them out on Facebook.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I think the Flying Saucer will be a hit with my kids and Zappi's sounds great for a pizza dinner. :-)

You have to get away from the falls or else you will pay double. Any place in the Clifton Hill or Fallsview area will charge you $25 for a burger.

Zappi's is a local institution. I had birthday parties there as a child! Very good food and friendly service. I also second the recommendation for mickandangelos.

The Flying Saucer is a bit of a dive to be honest. A unique dive with good tasting food that is horrible for you. I would go.. just don't be expecting gourmet by any means:rotfl:

And this is also completely correct. Drive away from the tourist area and the prices will drop considerably. Ask the locals. Just start a conversation with the Bellman. They know where to go that won't charge you an arm and a leg.:)

ETA) One I thought of that we love that *is* at the top of Clifton Hill was Antica Pizzeria. It has wonderful pizzas and basic pastas and it isn't too bad price wise at all.

Good point. The saucer is a dive but fun. As far as food goes think of fried diner food. Greasy but yummy!
