Good place to stop for groceries before reaching Orlando?

We're planning to stop somewhere to load up on groceries for our stay at FW. Anyone have any recommendations? Somewhere near an exit, and with a nice big parking lot we can maneuver our Winnebago in would be great! We'll be coming from the north.

I don't shop at Walmart on principle, so anywhere but that ;)

I love Disboards! Thanks for any advice :goodvibes

We love Publix! I can't tell you the exact location of one near WDW, but I know there are some around there. Publix are all over FL. Check their website.

Avoid Gooding's. Terribly overpriced and really rundown the last time I was in there.

If you exit from I-4 onto 535, there's a Winn-Dixie near the Fort on 535 a half mile or less further off I-4 past the CrossRoads (West of I-4 I believe...maybe be technically North since I-4 runs E-W). Parking lot should be big enough.

If you are coming in via 27, there are a couple of Walmarts and Publixs (Publixes, Publi?) along there and it's new development in the middle of nowhere, so it's not crowded like being in town. I also use the Publix near the outlets just SE of I4-535 interchange, it is easy in and out but you have to deal with the traffic on 535. Publix is at 8145 Vineland Avenue, Orlando, FL 32821-6847 (407) 238-9924‎

We have been doing this for years we stop at the winn-dixe in Leesburg! Plenty of room we travel with three mini homes!

Give me a route your are coming into the Fort on, and I can tell you of several, easy-in/easy-out places to shop. From N. Dakota, I assume you might eventually take I-75 & then hit the Fla Turnpike? If you do that, then I assume you would either exit the trpk on US Hwy 27S, or my recommendation would be to exit at the 429 toll road and go south to I-4. You end up one exit west of the WDW exit on I-4 if you go that way. Yes...it's toll roads on the trpk & the 429 - but it is very easy driving. There are several places to easily exit and re-enter along this route that has Publix, Winn-Dixie, Super Target & Sweet Bay. They are well marked on the highway in advance of the exits.

So - let me know your route & I can give you more specifics.

There's a real nice Publix about 5 miles +/- past the Winn Dixie on 535 (Apoka Vineland). It's a nice new one that serves the Community there. It has a lot better selection and is ALOT cheaper then anything near the Park or entrances.
It's just past Bay Hill and near Islesworth (yes the one where Tiger lives)

Wow, thanks! I have no idea yet what route we'll be taking. Less traffic = good. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely hit you up when we know which way we'll be coming in.

Deb, I prefer that route too, but didn't think there was any place to shop along 429. I'd like to hear your recommendations.

Thanks,

We have had good luck with this Winn-Dixie, and the lot is definitely big enough.

We like this store too. I applied for a discount card on-line and carry it in my wallet for our shopping trips at WDW. If you have time before you leave, check out the ad online and make up your shopping list!

Some new plazas have "sprung up". I can't tell you exit numbers, or even townships, but one is about 3-4 miles south of US441 & you have your choice of Publix or Super Target - also a good choice of chain restaurants - Chili's, Outback, etc. There looks to be another new plaza being started near Oveido. We were that way 3 weeks ago and a lot of dirt was being moved around.

Thanks for the response Deb. I did some research and found that the SuperTarget (3343 Daniels Road, Winter Garden, FL 34787-7009, 407-395-0111) is north of 429 on 535 (Winter Garden Vineland Rd), and the Publix is north of the next exit Stoneybrook Pkwy (15508 Stoneybrook West Parkway, Winter Garden, FL 34787-4733).

And, perhaps most importantly, there is a Chick-fil-a near the SuperTarget!

My brother lives by that Publix. It is one of the nicest Publix's I have been in.

There is a ton of other chain stores near that exit.
Cracker Barrel
Super Target
World Market
Beall's Department store
Lots of other stores I can't think of. It's a big shopping area.

The big shopping area is on one side of the exit and the Publix is about a mile away.

Oh! Upon closer inspection, Stoneybrook Pkwy is not the next exit off 429, but rather connects to the exit at 535. So exit at 535 for all your restocking and gorging needs!
