we are looking to leave around 3pm on sat afternoon from NY, possibly stopping to sleep around 11pm somehwere which by directions it qwould put us around virginia or the carolina's

any suggestions?

we also want to stop at south of the border and see pedro or jose or pablo i forget either way any recomdations would be great
TIA

There are a number of nice hotels right off of exit 44 in Virginia. A Holiday Inn Express and a few others. That will get you close to the Carolinas (Virginia does exit numbers by mile markers).

Im from Virginia so Ive never actully stayed in a place off 95 in VA. But If you get far enough Lumberport NC is a really great place to stay. There are two seperate exits and each one has a few places to stay and a few places to eat inculding both fast food and sit down places. Its a bigger town so its not like your in the middle of nothing. You can eat breakfast there and then from what I remember its about an hour and a half, two hours to South of the Border!

You may get more suggestions to this if you ask on the Community board............

(Just an idea:) )

What part of NY are you leaving from? That might help me figure out where you might be around 11p.m. I'm originally from Danbury, CT and it usually takes me around 7-9 hours to get from there to exit 47 off of 95 in Virginia.

Exit 44 in Virginia is in Prince George, County. There are also a number of places in Emporia VA, that is closer to the VA/NC state line. Exit 15 or so?

We are from Western Long Island and it takes us 10hrs to South of The Border...there are many many hotels off 95..Interstate 95 has a website as well which tells you every hotel and location..hope it helps!

We have stopped in the Fredericksburg, VA area on our way down from Vermont. Where we were from it was about halfway. No experience staying the Carolina's however we are big fans of the Cracker Barrels along Route 95

Depending on traffic, you should be 7ish hours from the exit I posted. You can definitely make it to NC if traffic through DC doesn't kill your time.

Lumberton (Exit 20) would be a good place to stop if you can make it that far. There are lots of hotels right on I-95 and South of the Border (featuring Pedro!) is only about 20 miles south.

There's also a Cracker Barrel for breakfast if you're interested. Be sure to order the hashbrown casserole. Mmmm...

If you want to stop in the Carolina's, you may want to try Jameson Inn, Smithfield NC, exit 97, small, nice, CLEAN and a good place to rest.

Not sure how long you'll be in our great state, but while in the Smithfield area, you may want to check out the outlet mall there---tons of shopping, great food, everything from CiCi's Pizza, to the Outback, and Denny's to boot, everything you could imagine is right there. There is a ten screen cinema there, Smithfield 10, a Coldstone Creamery, and it's about 2hrs from the south of the border.

Hopefully this helps a bit, happy travels through our great state!

Hilton Garden Inns are really nice. Not too $$$ and the beds are so comfortable
you may not want to get out of them and continue your trip. :thumbsup2

at every exit on 95, there are signs for each motel, gas station and food stop at the exit. We are partial to Hampton Inns. They offer competative room rates, CLEAN rooms, and a complimentary breakfast to start the day. Arlo, we are weary of pedro and SOTB, reminds us of a dirty, unkempt flea market and an outright tourist trap.
