So I got to stay home and babysit while Naomi took Aidan to his pulmonologist and for a hearing evaluation. He had failed in the TCU, but we were told that didn't mean a lot. So today was our big day.

First up was his Pulmonologist and wow things went well. They stated that he can start being weaned off of his oxygen and if things stay the same he will have his trach removed next Spring/Summer.

I wish all news was good though. We found out that our son is profoundly deaf in his left ear and may only hear Jet Engine or Van Halen Concerts in his right. All in all our precious boy is deaf. You know though of all the senses that one could lose, I think this is the easiest to work with as a parent.

We had already started learning sign language and we are going to start researching Oculear Implants once we get a second opinion. Thanks to all of you for support and thus our journey will continue, wondering what the next curve will bring...

sorry about all that is happening, a very good friend had his son born deaf and they did the implant but as of yet not working to well. they are keeping things optimistic and joke at least the noise wont wake him up ;) he has picked up what they call see sign very well and could "talk" before most babies as far as needs. you and your family will be in my thoughts, if you ever need to chat feel free to pm me.

happy thoughts

Welcome Back! Im sorry about your son, but sign language is fun, or so ive heard :)

:goodvibes

Much luck to your sign language learning and new little boy! :goodvibes

I'm sorry to hear about your little boy. I have a lot of deaf people in my family most of them are elderly, but they were born deaf. Fortunately things have changed for the better in the deaf world since then. I also have a little cousin who was born deaf, but she had surgery and now she hears. God bless you and your family. Your children are adorable.

I'm glad to hear the good things about your son! And good luck with learning sign language! I think nowadays it's "easier" to deal with deafness because the world is more open to things like sign language. When I was in high school, it was a class, like a foreign language. In the school where I teach now, there's a sign language club for extracurriculars and there are a lot of students in it. I've also been to a church that has a person translating the entire message into sign language. :)

Rome, it is good to hear from you again. Glad to hear some things are looking up for Aiden. Signing is alot of fun, just think you can talk privately in public places and most ppl wont even know what your're saying! We'll keep " you little pirate and princess" in our hearts and prayers as well as the rest of you. : )
