In the spring of this year we bought a Suburban to tow our trailer with. We had planned on towing down to Disney May 2010.

Here is the bad news. I got notice that my job will be ending next year and all production shipped to China, Mexico and USA. Hey i'm fine with this life goes on. So next years trip towing down is out as the time frame just isn't good. So now your wondering where is the good news. Well we threw caution into the wind dug into the travel savings a bit and booked Disney at Christmas Dec 14 to the 26 to take advantege of the free dining plan. We are saving $1600 by doing it this way. The only problem is now we are not staying at the Fort we are staying a ASMu and upgraded the food package so we can get the sit down meals. At least when we drive down we will be in extreme comfort in the new truck. Oh and it's 4x4 so if we hit a snow storm on the way down we can keep on truckin.

I know some of you might think we are crazy by booking a trip knowing my job is gone next year. We figured if this trip causes us to lose everything we are in trouble anyway. BTW we will be fine. I got things inline for when it happens. Still we are not sure when we will be able to do this trip again and really want the kids to see Disney at Christmas when there still young. I've been wanting to post this for a few weeks now but we waited until vacation was approved and the trip booked. Damn i'm looking forward to this trip.

Look out mouse the canucks are comin for a visit

Great news on the trip, really sorry to hear about the job. I honestly hope for our kids sake that the balance of industry finds it's way back into the US and Canada again soon. I'm no expert, but didn't the basics of trading rely on the balance of equal trading between partners?

But I hope that you have a great time; I have never been to WDW around Christmas and it sounds like a great trip. Be sure to take the boat over to the Fort and see the decorations, maybe take in a meal at Trails End or the Hoop De Doo Review. Good luck with whatever comes on the job front, hear's hoping it's a great opportunity for a new career.

Thanks. Christmas at the world is awesome. My wife and I did it many many many years ago. We plan on heading to the Fort one evening to check things out. Prob do trails end as we have done HDDR twice already. As for work I will be heading back to school at age 40 lol I will get a trade. No more factory work for me I hope lol.

You're not crazy - have a great trip - Christmas is the best time to go -you'll find a better job anyhow.

This economy sucks,,but good to hear your prepared for it.

Hava great trip,,xmas is such a beautiful time to hit Disney. :thumbsup2

trevor, you will be fine. my bil lost his job and they are doing ok.

my dh lost his job and we are ok. we always figured that if it came down to it we would just get rid of the house and live in the camper. with 4 dogs i couldn't rent a place. so, just have a back up plan. we are fine, though.

you should check into school. my dh is going and it is paid for. for the first time in his life he is able to get a degree. school is paid for (i believe) by the state if your job has been lost because it went over seas or to mexico. make sure you call workforce developement to get that going.

as far as the trips go... you still have to live and do the things that make you happy. we were worried about not making it down this year. now, we are going in october and april. but, like you, we figured out how we could do it. we have doubled up in our camper with other family members. sharing the cost of everything is really helping us and the ones going with us.

have a great trip and leave the troubles behind once you get into that vehicle.. :woohoo:

I am sorry that you will be losing your job. But how great that you have things in place for when that happens. When I was growing up, my dad was out of work off and on due to the nature of his job. We always survived and my folks tried to keep things as "normal" around the house as possible. One year he was out of work for 9 months and on the 8th month they still managed to take us to WDW and of course camping at the Fort. It was a trip that had been planned for a year already and there was no way my dad was not taking us (I get my disney obsession from him). Anywho, how wonderful that your kids will get a chance to see WDW at Christmas.

Trevor, sorry to hear about your job. I hope you find something even better! Change is inevitable. Going into it with a positive attitude is key! It sounds like you're already on your way to great things!

Have a wonderful time at WDW! I was there last November to see all the Christmas decorations....beautiful!!!! Enjoy your trip! And really, it's not about jobs, houses, or cars.....it's about the people you love. The memories you make with your family will last a lifetime.

I'm with you, I just got back to work after an 8 month lay off and we're not sure it is a permanent return. But by golly, we are going to WDW in November as planned ! :thumbsup2
