Can someone explain to me what it means to be a "Good Neighbor Hotel"? What are the advantages/perks of staying at one, other than distance to parks and price?

DH and I are thinking about a trip to CA next year and since we've never been there before, we are clueless. What are some other things you would suggest doing in the area? Is Knott's Berry Farm worth a visit? Thanks!!

Good Neighbor Hotels are recognized by Disney for their promotions. They are not on site and some can be across the street or farther away. Perks are usually the price, some have larger rooms suites, and as you said distance.

Look at the trip reports, you will see a number of folks who do the SoCal tour when they come west. Also hang with the boards, there will be a number of threads with ideas.

The Disney Travel Company will book certain properties that meet a certain criteria. These are called Good Neighbor Hotels because of their association with Disney.

Not too long ago there was a manager who insisted that their hotel was a Good Neighbor, and we went back and forth. I called Disney and they confirmed that the property was not a Good Neighbor Hotel, but the manager insisted that Disney's records just hadn't been updated. I just thought "uh, huh." lol

So just be aware that some properties will claim that they are Good Neighbor Hotels and will put the little logo on their websites, but if you want to stay at one, check Disney's website to verify which ones are considered true Good Neighbor Hotels.
