Good luck to all students taking state exams and finals this week and next week.

Same here, a couple of weeks ago. Last day of school was May 23rd. First day of Summer School was June 9th.Kids here are done already.![]()
NY Regents exams are this week and next week.some have been out for ages already here-graduation season kicked off may 9th and the last of the high school and college commencements was June 7th. summer session at one of the locals started back on may 18th
I would be surprised that any high school would be going this late in the year b/c most colleges have a much earlier cut-off for grades/transcripts to be submitted (I know of a school district that did'nt take that into consideration when they tweaked the entire district's calendar and wanted all the schools to align with their newly adopted non traditional system-caused a world of trouble for the seniors that year and the district had to change the system for all the middle and high schools the following year).
Our townโs high school graduation is tomorrow, grades are released tomorrow. They got rid of winter break, before graduation wouldโve been the end of next week.some have been out for ages already here-graduation season kicked off may 9th and the last of the high school and college commencements was June 7th. summer session at one of the locals started back on may 18th![]()

Public schools here made the start of school earlier by two weeks because they now take the entire Thanksgiving week off, not just Thanksgiving day and the day after, and they take Presidents Day WEEK off, not just President's day. A few districts take three weeks off for Christmas break, and two weeks off for Easter week.Local public schools got out between June11th and today. High school graduations in the area were between June 6th and 15th.
We don't go back to school until the last week of August or after Labor Day.

Up here school starts on Aug 28th. They will be off for Columbus/Indigenous People's day and Veteran's Day, 3-5 days at Thanksgiving (depends on the town). Winter break is Dec.22-Jan 2. One day off for MLK day, winter break is 2/16-2/20. There is a 4 day weekend in March for teacher workshops. In April vacation will be the 20th-24th, and they will have Memorial day off in May. Graduations are scheduled for June 7-14, depending on the school system, with the last day of school being June 15-18.Public schools here made the start of school earlier by two weeks because they now take the entire Thanksgiving week off, not just Thanksgiving day and the day after, and they take Presidents Day WEEK off, not just President's day. Early September.when do they go back? the ones whose last day here was at the tail end of the dates I listed don't start back until September 24th-so are the ny students looking at some point in October???
Yes, NY is one of a few states to have statewide standardized exams. The NY Regents exams date back to the late 1800โs, however, they are being phased out as a mandatory graduation requirement in the next few years, a decision that is controversial. Typically the required exams are completed by the end of junior year, so donโt affect the graduating class.NY Regents exams are this week and next week.
I can assure you that tens of thousands of students from NY have been accepted to colleges and enrolled for the fall semester. Again, itโs been this way forever. Other states in the northeast have similar school year schedules. As far as I know, transcripts sent with applications include first semester grades, and get updated later. Itโs never been a problem.I would be surprised that any high school would be going this late in the year b/c most colleges have a much earlier cut-off for grades/transcripts to be submitted (I know of a school district that did'nt take that into consideration when they tweaked the entire district's calendar and wanted all the schools to align with their newly adopted non traditional system-caused a world of trouble for the seniors that year and the district had to change the system for all the middle and high schools the following year).
We have always had regents and non regents diplomas in the Hudson Valley. How are they being phased out? I haven't heard anything. I think the regents help NY academically to be honest.Iโm also in New York and most of the high schools around here are having graduations next week. In my district, it is June 26th. It has always been this way, for generations. First day of school in the fall is usually the first week of September, after Labor Day.

Not for some parts of the country. This week and next week? You are behind with that one. Most have been done for awhile.
Oh, now I see. Interesting. I was told my regents grades helped my application for college. I'm glad to see most will still be offered as an option.Iโm also in New York and most of the high schools around here are having graduations next week. In my district, it is June 26th.
