Hi, we'll be staying on-site at Universal from Dec. 5-8th (at RPR). (first timers to Universal).

Do you know of a decent hotel (ie. clean, no bugs!) really close to Universal, that we can stay at for one night, Dec. 4rth when we'll be arriving really late, around midnight, just to sleep for the night before our morning check-in at RPR?

I've heard of Doubletree, but there's no availability that night. We don't need anything fancy, looking for something inexpensive but clean, just to crash basically until the morning.

Thanks for the help.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express just down the street on Major Blvd. They have rooms with 2 double beds and a sofa bed at $89.

Another option would be to stay at one of the airport hotels after arriving late at MCO.

had a few, but the no bugs rule will make it vfery difficult.

Really? When I say bugs, I mean bed-bugs, cockroaches, etc. (not talking about standard mosquitoes and things like that in summer). Are there so few hotels out there at Universal that qualify?

I know a lot of people over on the cruise board know how to get the Hyatt MCO through Priceline and get good deals.

Yep, the betterbidding.com site will help. The Hyatt MCO is a great hotel and can be had for between $45-55 on Hotwire and Priceline (Priceline is riskier). It would be a great choice considering it's right at the airport and very well reviewed.

Stayed at Hyatt place universal last weekend
Great beds , small bathroom , $6.00 cab ride to Universal :thumbsup2

Thanks for suggestion, but we're actually going to be driving in from Miami, very late at night, and we want to get be in the Universal area so as to be able to drive to RPR early in the morning easily.

Thanks for suggestion - looks good, just want to make sure: No bugs that you saw? (I do get grossed out at the idea of bedbugs, which I had never heard of until I started reading Disboards!!)

We were there this past June for the night before we checked into RPR. We saw no bedbugs. There are never any guarantees because travellers can bring the bugs with them and you never know who was in the room before you. However, bedbugs are a huge issue and I imagine that the cleaning people are looking for them. There is only so much you can do about them. Take a peek at the mattress before you climb into bed.

We found the beds and bedding to be wonderful. Not sure about the sofa bed, but your little ones shouldn't have any issue with it.

They have a nice free breakfast.

When you look at the mattress, are bedbugs obvious to the eye?
