I am trying to start Christmas shopping and am looking to buy DD as DS. What is a good price for these? I looked online at Walmart and they have a bundle but I have no idea if it is a good price or not. Any suggestions on what price range is a good deal so I can grab it when I see it. Thanks!

I'm no expert, but the best price I have seen so far on the DSi is $129 at dell.com.

It is not $129 all the time and I haven't seen it that low in months so you have to check daily.

For a bundle, Walmart had the white one, w/ 2 bonus games, plus the starter kit for $189. That sold out though. All the other colors were the same, but only 2 bonus game.

I'm looking to buy 1 for my DD for X-mas too. I check dealsofamerica.com daily b/c if there is a deal, it will usually be listed.

If I was buying a DS or DSLite, I would buy a refurbished one from Gamestop. They do not have any refurbished DSi's online.

Good luck!

This is a huge no no for me to be telling you this BUT when you do buy one, don't register it. If it does break for whatever reason ( as long as it isn't sat on or dropped or has liquid spilled on it, in other words something that is your fault) call the number and say you just recieved it as a gift. That way it will be within warranty and it will be repaired or replaced at no cost to you, even if it is 5 years old. :rolleyes1

That is seriously fraud.

The rumor is that there is a new one coming out at Christmas that plays the games in 3D. So wait because then the older brand new models prices will come down. Try a GameStop and ask them about...Happy Shopping...

I agree that it isn't 100% honest but I know someone who worked for Nintendo and that's what they were told. I'm not saying you HAVE to do it, I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Now that I look at ds lite and think I may go with that instead. Is the major difference between the ds and ds lite the camera?

The camera and if my memory serves me correct.... the internet capability. That is the main reason we chose to go with the Lite instead. My husband and I didn't want the internet at the touch of her fingers..... we like to monitor her on our desktop.....

The DSlite and the DSi also have compability differences. The DSi doesn't play the older games that you may already have and can get used for cheap.

I would be wary of getting a used one from Game Stop. They are not very good (scratched screens, pixels dead on the screen, cracks in the plastic at the sides where the top flips up). I was advised about this after I returned 2 that I bought. The people at Game Stop said that this is very common and that THEY know that when they are sent in to be checked they are rushed through. My thought is that if they don't think they are quality either then my 2 duds were not flukes but a common thing.

I'm pretty sure I read online somewhere in the last week that the prices for the current models are going to be dropped soon - this fall (probably in advance of new models).

We bought DD7 a pink DSi for our upcoming trip to Disney. We bought it at Target but it came with a free game so we also got Mario Kart with it.We're waiting until the trip to give it to her...it's a surprise and will keep her entertained on the flight ;) In regards to internet access on the DSi, we didn't want our daughter having that capability but luckily there are parental controls on the DSi so when my husband set it up he blocked that feature and she would need to know the code to access it :thumbsup2

Also, I wasn't initially thrilled about the camera feature but dd was playing with that feature in the store and both her and my 4 year old were having a blast, They would take pictures of themselves and then modify them (ie draw on them, distort them, etc.) It really was fun! The DSi can play any DS game, there just isn't a slot for Gameboy games...not even an issue for us :confused3

I was torn between the DSlite and DSi initially, but now I'm glad we went with the DSi!

Good luck and I hope you find a great deal!:wizard:

Nintendo just announced a price drop for the DSi and DSi XL, which will go into effect on Sunday. The regular price for the DSi will be $149 and the DSi XL will be $169. The regular price of the DS Lite won't change; it will remain $129. It isn't likely that anyplace will discount them past that unless they are selling a bundle, but with those you have to be careful - they are usually only good deals if you would otherwise be buying everything individually at full price.

The official announcement about the 3DS price and release date in Japan will be on Sept. 24. Hopefully they'll announce the North American price and date at the same time. Most people seem to think it's unlikely that the 3DS will be out by Christmas, but Nintendo has supposedly confirmed that it will be out no later than March (in Japan, at least). After it comes out the prices for the others are very likely to drop further.

Just a heads up but Gamestop has a trade in promo starting on the 12th. You get $60 off the DSi if you trade in the DS Lite and $80 off the DSiXL if you trade in the DSi. The prices are $149.99 starting the 12th as well. Hope this helps. I am now considering trading out my DD12's DS Lite
