Gone But Not Forgotten – My Family's 10 Days of DDP (with Pictures!) - Updated 4/7

Oooh, those pool bar drinks look and sound goooooooddd!!!! :drinking1

Thank you so much for the reviews-both past and to come!-and for the honesty; it's so nice hearing about the good AND bad. More informed traveler=happier traveler!

Great updates! I've never seen tator tots for breakfast. My family would  that. I was considering the Safari Breakfast but we're doing O'hanas and Chef Mickey breakfasts instead at the kids' request.

Those drinks were good! We didn't have high expectations for the restaurants, we just wanted good service and good food. I'm just happy when I'm on vacation and don't have to cook!:goodvibes

Okay, now I want a Electric Umbrella while I'm laying in my hammock.

I"ve got a picture of that on Day 7 just for you!

The drinks were wonderful, the sand was soft and the breeze was warm, but the pool experience stunk!

There was this lifeguard who was yelling at everyone. Many kids were actually getting kicked out of the pool for walking fast – not even running and they had to bring their parents to him to get lectured as well. Honestly, I think no one at the pool had a good time swimming that afternoon. :sad2: We were ALL afraid of getting yelled at by this guy. It was crazy and even my DH was annoyed and when I asked him why he wasn't swimming, he said "he'll probably yell at me for being too fat." ;) We were actually not looking forward to returning to CSR's pool in fear this guy would be there again. I think someone must have said something though, because we didn’t see him the rest of the week.

That's funny since I was wondering why they had tater tots in the morning buffet and then I wondered even more why I took them? Maybe I thought they'd have cheese sauce to put on them. :lovestruc Honestly, any reputable restaurant knows they should serve cheese sauce with tater tots! :rotfl:

Chef Mickey's and 'Ohanas are good choices for breakfast and hitting all the important characters!:thumbsup2

Can't wait to see the picture. :thumbsup2

What a jerk! I have always said one of the best things about the CSR pool is how friendly and outgoing the lifeguards are. They do their job but also interact with the kids and even the adults. I hope someone did say something as that is totally unacceptable behavior!

So after the pool drama, we headed back to AK for our 4:15 ADR at Yak & Yeti. People were lined up waiting for the 3:45 parade, but we were able to walk behind them to get to the restaurant. We were seated promptly at a table upstairs on the inside. I would have preferred a window table and have been able to watch the parade with our 2 children, but I am not a table requestor so this was fine. The restaurant wasn’t crowded when we got there, but it was filled by the time we left.

Mark was our server and although he did a good job and was very attentive, he was REALLY getting under my skin. :headache: He would only address my DH - he asked DH his name, used his name while explaining the DDP to him, asked him how everything was, gave him the bill, told him how generous he was. Hello, women’s lib here. It really was annoying. REALLY.

Since seeing other’s reviews, this is the new restaurant I really wanted to go to. I knew what I was ordering for months. The Shaoxing Steak and Shrimp - skirt steak, tempura-battered shrimp, jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables, chili plum dipping sauce $24.99.
1003969_1.jpg

This was SOOOOO good. Skirt steak doesn’t sound very exciting to me, but it was so tender and flavored wonderfully and cooked medium rare just like I like it. I was surprised! I almost ordered the shrimp only and I am so glad I didn't! The shrimp were disappointing. They were pretty small and thin under the tempura and tasteless. I know that they look big, but they really weren’t.

DH ordered the Stir-Fried Beef and Broccoli - flank steak, broccoli, brown sauce $17.99. Per DH it was good but not memorable.
1003968_1.jpg

DS13 ordered the Crispy Honey Chicken - tempura chicken, broccoli, carrots, honey sauce $17.99.
1003967_1.jpg

DS13’s review: “I loved that, it was very good. It was my 2nd favorite meal.” I agree. It sounds good, looks good and tasted good. A good choice for him!

DS7 ordered his favorite – an Egg Roll, chicken fried rice and applesauce. We asked for some sweet & sour sauce and he was in heaven! I think he ate it all.
1003966_1.jpg

For dessert, DH order the Mango Pie - shortbread cookie crust, fresh whipped cream, raspberry sauce $7.99. He loved it and remembers it better than his entrée!
1003972_1.jpg

DS13 & I ordered the Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle $7.99.
1003973_1.jpg

I knew that I would order this as well. DS13’s review: “Aaahhh, I wasn’t so sure about that. It wasn’t the greatest.” I have to agree with him, maybe it was the sauce or something, but it wasn’t true love for me either. This is one of the items I had high hopes for, but it ended up being the item that I was let down the most by. Do you know what I mean?

Finally, DS7 had the Chocolate Pudding with Marshmallows.
1003974_1.jpg

This was in quite a big bowl and the marshmallows were bigger than regular mini’s. DS7 just wasn’t into it, but he did like the marshmallows. :)

After doing everything we wanted at AK, we headed over to DisneyQuest. I ended up hanging out by the little kid’s games and was having fun playing them (hey, I paid for admission too!) I did the jump rope game where you have to jump when the lights come around and was the Queen of the 1st two levels. princess: All of the sudden I didn’t feel well. I don’t know if it was the jumping that mixed up something, or what, but we needed to leave and go back to the room NOW! The fresh air helped, but barely. While on the bus, I did some deep breathing exercises and focused on something else other than my stomach. WARNING – GROSS COMMENT: I actually focused which passenger's bag of items I could dump out the quickest if I needed the bag to throw up in. It was really that bad. So, I don’t know if it was the food (shrimp?) or what. Fortunately, no one else felt sick and I was fine in the morning. So, although I would be a skittish about returning soon which I’m not, I would certainly consider them in the future.

Sorry you weren't feeling well after Yak & Yeti (my DH had that experience after eating at WCC), but glad you felt better by the next morning. We enjoyed our meal there; we skipped it in September because we didn't get to AK, but we are going on our next trip (I had the sweet and sour pork and it was very good).

We were up and at park opening again and did TSM and other favorites. DS7 got to be part of the Green Army men show. I love that the CM’s at Disney are so into their roles. It makes everything so much more special.

We had a 12:05 pm ADR at Sci-Fi’s. We rushed over from the Beauty & the Beast Show (which I require the family to see every year!) While I checked at 12:05 pm, DH got fast-passes to Star Tours –our yearly plan. We must have waited 15-20 minutes. We saw many people without ADR’s try to get in and they were all turned away. DH and I were surprised that so many would come down the week of Thanksgiving and not have a plan.

We were seated at a car and Brenda was our server. I don’t recall anyone sitting behind us. I have to say that our family loves this restaurant! The boys love it because of the short cartoons / movie clips and I love it because it is the quietest dinner of the week. It is like having one hour of quiet time in the middle of the park. :goodvibes

Here’s our family in the traditional car pose. DS7 had to get on his knees so we could see him over the bar.
1004015_1.jpg

We were paying OOP for this meal as it always comes out cheaper than any of the other dinners. Both DH & DS7 ordered Vanilla Cokes and had refills. They love them!! $3.19 ea.
1001034.jpg

I had a Diet Coke - $2.69, and I’m sure DS7 picked out something strange as usual that was included in the kid’s meal. No pict's.

DS7 ordered the Bacon-Cheeseburger with French Fries - $12.99. He was quiet and chowed it down.
1004012_1.jpg

1001042.jpg

DH ordered the Reuben with French Fries - $11.99. This was the 2nd year he’s ordered this and loved it both times. This is the 2nd year I’ve taken a bad picture of it.
1004010_1.jpg

I ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger - $12.99 and I substituted onion rings for the French fries for an additional $2.29. The burger was great and so were the onion rings!
1004014_1.jpg

I might have eaten an onion ring or two before taking this picture. ;)

DS7 ordered the Kid’s Mac & Cheese with Tomato Soup - $5.84. He ate it with no complaints and liked both.
1004011_1.jpg

DS7 also got a dessert with his kid’s meal so he chose the Sundae - $1.75.
1004016_1.jpg

We didn’t order desserts as we were full.

ADR Time: 12:05 pm
Bill Time: 1:15 pm

OOP $ 60.62 plus tip.

We will certainly return! :lovestruc

Love this review! Great pix and descriptions! Maybe one day we'll stay onsite and get free dining. Right now we've only been to WDW a few times and we hate to sit down and eat because we're afraid we're gonna miss something-lol!

 The onion rings look SO good!

LOVE the onion rings at Sci Fi. And Mark loved the reuben sandwich (he's not sure if it is better than the Plaza's of it is a tie).

Fab reviews, some great restaurants theres. :thumbsup2

we're thinking of trying Tusker house, i wouldnt mind trying Yak & yeti. will show my husband the pictures and see if i can persuade him :rotfl:

keep up the great work.xxx:)

Yum! I am looking forward to our ressie for Sci-Fi. That Rueben looks good and so does the mushroom swiss burger......thats gonna be a hard decision! :)
Mmmmm....Vanilla Coke.....I always get Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper @ Sonic!

Just catching up and really enjoying your reviews. You guys look like you had great fun.

I love your reviews and awesome pictures! Your kids are cute! You gave me some good ideas for our upcoming trip too. I never realized that I could get an iced mocha for a drink at CR. Definately will do that this time! I was also having a hard time trying to figure out whether to order spinach and artichoke dip or onion rings for an appetizer at Sci-Fi. Looks like DH and I can have the dip (for 2) and I can ask for onion rings instead of fries with my burger. Duh! I wonder if there will be an upcharge for that on the DxDDP? We'll find out!

Dang! My favorite sandwich is the reuben. It's on the menu. Everyone talks about it. Why is that when we went in June of 2008 our waiter SWORE that it wasn't on the menu and the best they could do was pastrami. Which was...bread and pastrami.

It is another beautiful day in Wisconsin! The boys have their shorts on for a 2nd day and tomorrow starts spring break. :worship: I need a break! Sorry for the delay but I was getting a message about bandwith from photobucket and ended up buying some subscription. Anything to keep my vacation alive!

I actually think the Disney packages are pretty reasonable. I price everything out and I truly think they are - especially once you add in transportation, tickets and food. I thought about going to Universal for a few days on our last trip and staying at their hotel and that would have been a lot more pricey than Disney. When we went to Disney in 2006 we stayed at the Pop in Oct for $65 a day. Now if only we didn't have to pay for airplane tickets!

I know it's hard not to feel like you're missing out or missing a prime time to do rides when everyone else is eating. Thank goodness not everyone likes to be at park opening or uses Fast Passes - those two always save us a lot of time!

Sorry to hear that you didn't feel well after the AK, glad you were better in the morning.

 The onion rings look SO good!

I felt bad that I made everyone leave DisneyQuest but I didn't know my way around that area. I'm so glad I felt better in the morning too, I feel so bad when reading how people were out the whole next day.

Those onion rings were delish! I just wish they'd give you more!!:lovestruc

Maybe you can talk DH into splitting each?

cant wait for more. yummmm

Thanks!:goodvibes

Just catching up and really enjoying your reviews. You guys look like you had great fun.

We all had fun. I'm glad that DS13 still enjoys WDW and I love that DS7 still loved the characters.

Thanks! I saw that dip for 2 - it looks yummy! That would be great if the upgrade was included on the DxDDP!

I love Si-Fi! It is a great quiet meal.

Did you make those t-shirts? Are they Star Wars themed? They look cool!

Isn't that funny so think that the giant open restaurant is such a quiet meal? We all veg, eat and stare at the big TV screen. So relaxing!

I did make the tshirts. They have a great thread at the bottom of the DIS forms in the Just For Fun area called Creative DISigns. There are people who love designing shirts, autograph cards, tip envelopes etc. They design them and then you size them to your tshirt needs, print them at home from your printer onto iron-on sheets, iron them on and enjoy your custom tshirts! I bought cheap t-shirts from Michaels. I made a ton of them for our trip in 2008 - 21 to be exact. I wonder now what the heck I was thinking! But, once you got the hang of it, it was lots of fun and I was really proud of myself.

Of all the tshirts I made, the Star Wars ones always had the most comments. Not that they weren't all cute, but Star Wars fans are something special! Usually people wanted to know where to buy them. Each letter of the name has a different character in it. I'm not sure if Dom is making new names but he has done many! Here's the link to his thread:

It's not a vacation to us without good food!

That stinks! I hate when you go somewhere and know what you want and it isn't there any more. I know the reuben was there in November 2008 again!
