Golf tips for WDW courses

I posted a question before our trip to WDW about golf discounts, and I didn't get many responses. I thus thought that I'd post something with what I found out on our most recent trip (we're actually still here in Disney).

Here is some of what I found:

1. The DVC golf membership is not a good deal if you have a premium annual pass (PAP). The DVC golf membership costs $50 and allows you to play for a discounted rate, but the premium annual pass has discounts that may be better.
2. The PAP allow one to play (in January) for $85 before 2PM and $40 after 2PM. This is a substantial savings over the regular on-site rate and the twilight rate ($59).
3. The DVC membership (you pay $50 per year) is $80 before 10AM and $65 after 10AM.
4. The PAP allows you to get the "tee it up upgrade." You have to go standby and not make a tee time, but you can upgrade from Oak Trail to any other Disney course for $40 and play at any time (even before 10AM). The same deal works with the Water Parks and More package.

Please note that these rates are for January, and the rates change by the season.

In summary, I found that the DVC golf membership for $50 per year was not a good value for me because I have a PAP. If I was playing without park passes it might be a good value though. I also found the "tee it up" upgrade to be an exceptional value.

If you play after 10, DVC discount (40%) is better even if you have to buy DVC $50 annual card as long as you play three rounds or more. If you play before ten, AP discount (you do not need premium AP as AP is the same) is better because it is about $5 more per round than DVC discounted rate (about $80) but you do not buy DVC card. However, if you are going to play an even number of rounds, like 2 or 4, the best discount for before 10 is the Disney 2 round pass available to anyone staying on site. Price this time of year works out to $82 per round and you don't have to buy DVC card or an annual pass.

I found out too that you need to keep an eye on golfnow.com. I was able to book 2 rounds for DH and DS on 2 days @ $65/round. That is the same price as the DVC card, but did not have to buy the $50 card.

That's a great tip! Since DH golfs every day at WDW, savings really help. Just curious, what course(s) were these for?

I got Osprey and LBV. The reduced rate only came up a few days before they played. Palm and Magnolia also had openings, but while I was trying to book someone beat me to them.

In September I also got DH a good rate at Celebration using golfnow.com. He really likes that course too.

Just keep checking and good luck.
