We were confirming some reservations for a trip this weekend to a local camp grounds. They told us we need to have insurance and a state golf cart permit. Not sure how much insurance will be, the state DMV permit is $5. Does FW require proof of insurance? I did not see anything in the golf cart sticky.

no insurance, and no permit to be at FW with a cart, the cart rules are on a sticky on the front page of the camping board

We have been seasonal in a camping resort. They require that the golf carts have proof of insurance. Ours does not have "plates" and is not for the street. Because of that it is covered under our home owners policy. I called the company to be sure, and they went through it with me..the exact page and paragraph that covered it. The campground simply made a copy of it. I did speak to the company we have the cars with first..thinking I would need to add it, and they did not insure a vehicle that wasn't going to be registered with plates. That's when I thought ..let me call my homeowners..and for what we use it for..it was covered under that.

Let me tell you what happened to us last April, we called and asked what we needed to bring in our own personal golf cart and was told we needed proof of insurance, so we added insurance on to a tune of a couple hundred bucks and had a copy with us of our policy, whenever we drove up to the check in window we handed the CM our reservation stuff and the proof of insurance for the cart and the lady looked at it and said " what's this " and handed it back and said "oh you don't need that", geez I wish we would have known that it would have saved us that money !

And by the way we even called twice to confirm and still was told we needed insurance but we didn't need anything at all.

The fort does not require insurance to my knowledge. Having said that, liability insurance is very reasonable. If you have homeowners insurance you can add it to your policy for next to nothing or for a little more you can usually add it to your auto insurance. I insure ours only while we are camping. As soon as we get home I call and cancel the coverage.

I wish they would require Ins we have had several close calls with teenagers running stop signs..

I have full coverage on my 96 Yamaha golf cart through AAA and it cost me $62 per year. It doesn't have plates or any kind of permit but I like the piece of mind to have liability insurance on it, not just a rider off my homeowners insurance. JMHO.

I bet it only covers it while on the Golf Course unless a specific rider was added and paid for but I could be wrong. It may look it is covered in one area and then exlcuded in another. I have never heard of a Golf Cart being covered under the Homeowners except in two instances: while on the premises of your residence or while on the golf course. Unless there is a specific rider available and paid for scheduling the golf cart I really doubt there is any coverage. Your homeowners liability will cover a rental/non-owned golf cart.

Same thing applies to ANY MOTORIZED vehicle except lawn mowers and that type. ATV and other recreational type vehicles are excluded.

I suggest you get this in writing from your agent as you may need their E&O coverage when you find out it is not covered.

Well, I did "specifically" ask that. I told them where it would be used..and it wasn't on a golf course. They told me it was covered....and sent me a copy of the policy with the page and paragraph highlighted that indicated so. I had no problem adding a rider to the policy, and they said it wasn't necessary...maybe because it was already ammended.
Being that we will be taking it out of the garage soon and back to the campground..I'll check into it again, to be on the safe side. Also..the campground accepted the information provided. However, you can't be too careful.;)

Auntie,

I am not trying to be rude or anything so don't take my response the wrong way. I have been the business for 30 years and own an insurance agency here in FLorida and it is possible that policies in NY are different. I would still suggest that you get it from them in writing as most policies are on the same standard form nationally and then endorsed to add the extra goodies a company wants to provide but like I said, I could be wrong since you are in another State.:thumbsup2

No..I appreciate the input.:thumbsup2 I will be calling again to make sure about the liability coverage. Since that's all we were looking for. I did speak with the agent..who was the one who sent me another the copy of the policy and the hghlighted area specific to the golf cart. I do remember quetioning him about the coverage not being on a golf course..because that cetainly wasn't where we'd be using it. I'll give him another call. ;)
Sounds like I might take out that policy with AAA..just to be sure anyway. For some $60.00 for the year, the peace of mind would be worth it.

Whenever we added insurance onto our golf cart ,Nationwide didn't even know how to insure it, they said I was the first person ever to ask to have mine insured ( you've got to be kidding ). :lmao:

Now the beach we go to, you have to have it insured for at least lib. damage, so whenever Nationwide called me back for a separate policy for 100.00 every 6 months, I was like are you kidding me :scared1:

Some insurance companies just don't know how to go about insuring them.
We were like My God we didn't pay but 2900.00 for the thing !:scared:

That was what I found when I called my auto policy about adding it. They had NO IDEA. Said they don't insure them. That's when I went the homeowners route.

Took care of insurance today. My 1998 Yamaha has its own policy through State Farm. It is a recreational vehicle policy, $20 for a whole year.:yay: $5 for my SC DMV sticker. It is now street legal.

WHAT ! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ! I can't get it here under 60.00 every 6 months no matter where I go...
