Hi everyone!

I can't seem to find the answer to this question. I currently have a Gold AP that expires in October. I am considering going to WDW over New Years this coming year which would mean I need to upgrade to the Platinum Pass. When I renew my AP later this year can I upgrade at the Platinum renew price or can I only renew at the Gold AP renewal price? Would I essentially have to start all over again and get a Platinum Pass at the initial buy in price if I switch to that pass at renewal time?

Thanks in advance!

If you aren’t using the AP between October and December and your current pass is enough for the October trip, you could let the AP expire. Buy hoppers for the December trip, and after entering the last park on the last day, upgrade your MYW tickets to a new Gold AP.
It’s only ~$20 savings but then your AP is good until Dec 2019

There's only a $20 difference between platinum renewal and new gold? Or do you mean something else?

Yes, it looks like the Platinum renewal is $619.
Allowing the AP to expire and getting a new Gold is $589 (that’s a $30 difference not $20, oops)

I would also watch for deals. When we renewed our APs, we used the special for the platinum pass that was priced about the same as renewing our gold pass. Lots of options.

You are all awesome! Thanks so much for the info and tips. Always looking to save those Disney dollars where I can! :thumbsup2
