Gold Mobility - 3 or 4 wheel ECV

I was on the fence about renting a 3 or 4-wheeled version for my upcoming trip. (Thinking the ones I rented before in the park are 4-wheeled and maybe were a little more stable to use. However, I do remember how hard they were to maneuver in the queue lines)

After reading some of the messages and hearing that the 3-wheeled version offers better maneuverability and a better-turning radius, I pondered for the longest time about switching the 4-wheel to a 3-wheel.

I decided this morning to go with the 3-wheel Victory 10 version (I still hope I made the right decision...)

I just texted Gold and asked them what I would need to do to switch ECVs (thinking they would have to rebook or make me jump through hoops)
Nope. I texted them and in about 3 minutes I had a reply that they switched my reservation to the 3-wheeled one and that I was all set for my upcoming trip.

So far, I have been nothing short of pleased with Gold Mobility. (The ease of ordering and the ease of getting questions answered in a rapid turnaround.)

Did I make the right decision to go from the 4-wheeled version to the 3-wheel?

I had the 3 wheel Victory 10 in December. It was very easy to maneuver through the lines. I think you made the correct decision

I agree! I got the proof I needed when I went to buy an ECV. I asked whether the 4 wheeler was more stable (less "tippy") than the 3 wheeler, thinking I knew what answer I'd get from the sales person-she was paid on commission and the 4 wheeler cost a little more. So she had incentive to recommend the 4 wheeler. Surprisingly she said that it used to be that way, but in recent years, advances have made 3 wheelers just as stable. I've never ridden a 4 wheeler at WDW, but I've gone thru a few queues with my 3 wheeler and watched people on 4 wheelers struggle. So you've definitely made the correct decision.

My mom has had the 3-wheeled ECV on a previous trip. Last year she had a 4-wheeled. The 3-wheeled one was definitively easier for her to turn in queues. She ordered the same 3-wheeled ECV from Gold for our trip in the coming weeks.

My personal scooter is a 3 wheel - and I always choose the 3 wheel to rent. The turning radius is far better.. and as always.. always start out in TURTLE speed mode 🐢

Gold mobility accidentally gave me a 4 wheel ECV once when I'd ordered a 3 wheel. This was arrival day in the afternoon and I drove it to the MK and then to the CR for dinner. I was trying to figure out if I had gone stupid or was just tired because I was having so much trouble parking it on the bus, getting in and out of elevators, the queue lines, etc. I finally realized I had a 4 wheel. They swapped it out the next morning.

The 3 wheel is so much better.

Not to dispute you, but just a comment for first time evc users. My DH resisted for a few years because he was afraid of lines. He rents a 4 wheel one. He was able to deal with the rides. Granted our ride usage is aimed more toward low key rides,

I just don’t want anyone to think “ oh no, I got a 4 wheel, I’m doomed, I’ll be hitting everything”.

Hope you have a great trip!

For me you made the right decision to go with the 3 wheeled one. I have never gone back to 4

My Mom much prefers the 3 wheeled version. Easier to manuever and get on and off the buses or through the lines.

Good point! Epcot used to rent only the 4-wheel ones (on my last trip, it looked like they now have 3-wheel) and I survived quite well. It was my first experience renting an ECV, yet I got everywhere I needed to go.

What about someone around the 300 lb mark? The gold site has a video about not going over 325 for the three wheel.

I was reading some comments to DH and now he is thinking, hmmm maybe we should get the three wheel. Looking at pictures, it also looks like a better design to rest your feet up a bit. Be able to stretch out your legs more.

That may be a valid concern - us heavier riders do tax the battery more - BUT the 3 & 4 wheel models that size both have double heavy duty batteries.. For the stretch out leg room.... well.. I am ALMOST 5 ft tall.. so my opinion of the runway length foot rests probably won't apply 😂

We usually only do 4-6 hours at a time at parks , so plenty of time to recharge battery. I thought the weight limit had to do with stability.

Honestly I don't think it's a huge difference between the larger ecvs stability. Either way you can't go wrong

3 wheel is definitely the way to go, 4 wheel can be physically tiring, especially on the lager ECVs.

I am a Pooh sized woman and have more than been pleased with Gold Mobility’s Victory 3 wheeled scooter. I find it easier to get on/off the buses with it and never had any difficulty with stability when on the scooter.

The better manueverability to go around tight corners is HUGE in the que line. they are set up in some places to just give enough room with a sharp turn . As a first timer I had 0 trouble..did not run into any ropes /poles. One day I was beside a guy with a 4 wheel new to scooters and it was awful for him. He ran into roles..had to back up and correct. Hard to watch. 3 wheel is a great plan
