We are staying at the DGC for 7 days. We are going to have 2 free days where we can go anywhere besudes DLR. Any reccomendations? We are going with 2 parents, a 13 yr old and DD15. Is there anywhere we can reach without renting a car?

Thanks!:worship:

You would need a car or a cab...my ds16 loves Dave and Busters also K-1 Speed. We don't have either here. Wednesday's are half price games at D&B. There are coupons (at least last year there was) in the Entertainment book for K1. I think there were 3 x buy one get one free and at $20/race the coupons make a huge difference.

D&B is at the Orange mall, lots of shopping and movie theatres. K1 is 10-15 minutes east and another one in Irvine. Different tracks at erach.

Long Beach Aquarium. A day trip to Catalina, pricey but my favorite place.
Depending on time of year whale or dolphin watching at Dana Point.

Baseball game at Angel stadium, if no games a tour of the stadium is pretty neat. Fingers crossed, there could be hockey games to see soon.

Sorry everything I've mentioned requires driving. We always have a car and as ds has gotten older have had to find new things to do.

Universal Studios is fun, the tour at Warner Brothers is the top of my to-do list- but both need a car...

Oh yeah thanks to PP I forgot about Universal. We went last summer an had a blast. Did pretty much everything, City walk is really cool. Lots of places to eat and shop, we had a hard time choosing where to eat and finally picked Bubba Gumps.
We got annual passes at Costco for not much more than a day pass and with it you get discounts even at City Walk. Best of all we can go back next summer without having to buy tickets.
Definitely need a car and leave earlier than you think as traffic can be bad.

Also Knotts Berry Farm has lots of roller coasters for the teens. We went 3 years ago and my ds and his friend had a blast. Line ups weren't too bad if any, I think they went on one ride 20 times. It's a smaller park and I had no trouble letting them go off on their own and I wandered on my own doing stuff they wouldn't like.

We are splitting our stay between DLR and Hollywood without a car and are happy with our decision not to rent a car. My DD is also a teen.

We have stayed before at DLR without a car - you can get to Knotts on a bus which stops on Harbor - it is only a 15 minute ride away.

Last time, we also took a tour bus by Grayline to visit both Universal Studios and also a Hollywood sights tour which included Santa Monica beach - Grayline pick you up at your hotel and then take you to a terminus where all teh tour buses are waiting and all leave about 9am. We took a further 'woody bus' tour (not with Grayline) to the beaches of Newport, Huntington and Laguna.

Knott's Berry Farm and Midevil times and you can arrange transportation with the DLR to both of those places. Or ya know ya could take a day off and chill at the hotel
the orange and the block (or something like that) is a nice shopping and restauratn area that is within walking distance

you can also use one of the days to shop is downtown disney and use the spa at DGC

So the bus picks you up at your hotel? Do you have to pay extra for the bus service? If so, is it worth it?

No its a public bus - service 460 which drops off at Knotts Berry Farm (its actually the Downtown LA bus) - you get on/off on South Harbor near the DLR pedestrian entrance - fare is $1.50 pp each way. For times, search for the 460 service on the timetable by selecting from the menu on the right on the page below - it says 'Express to LA'.

For the Grayline bus to Universal and LA and the woody bus to the beaches, we booked in advance before we left home on their respective websites.

We will also have a free full day next September - we plan to visit Garden Walk again for shopping (not a huge range of shops but good choice of restaurants - a previous poster mentioned Bubba Gump at Universal but they have a Bubba Gump here also - always a must do for us) - around 15 minutes walk from the GCH - its on Katella - they used to have a bowling alley - we might try that if its still there. Or we might go and see a movie in DTD (depends what's on)
