What is something I can take to her other than the standard balloons or flowers?? Wanted to be unique and not bring the same old things!

Thanks in advance for any ideas!!

How about a magazine that they would like? If they are not on a diet, you can make a basket with some snacks & a magazine (pretzels, raisins, CHOCOLATE, nuts, etc...)

A small portable battery operated radio with ear phones?

Word find or crossword puzzle books.

Those small hand held Poker or Slot games.

If you know what scents she likes, why not take her some hand lotion? Hospitals are usually very dry and the lotion they provide isn't too nice!

Maybe some magazines or a book?

Do you have a Cracker Barrel nearby? You can get her a booklet about the year she was born from there. An inspirational or a joke book would be nice too.:)

If she likes to do puzzles and crossword books, I would get her some of those. If she likes to stitch or knit, that would be a fun and time consuming activity.

I'm not advocating that you do this, but I'm pretty sure that my son got the most unique hospital gift that I've heard of. He was in the hospital on his 21st birthday. Not scheduled, in fact he was in intensive care following emergency surgery due to a life threatening complication from Crohn's Disease. Not at home, but in a strange hospital 7 hours from home. With a scared mom.

One of his friends decided to bring him what she had already planned to give him. A very VERY large brandy snifter filled to the brim with airline sized bottles of various "spirits". We kept it on his nightstand, and all the doctors and nurses laughed about it, asking him how his spirits were holding up each day. Obviously, we weren't utilizing the contents, but it made him glad that at least his birthday wasn't overlooked.

Back from a second day at the hospital. Yesterday I took her gift basket! I used a hardsided makeup train case for the basket and filled it with: Journal, Crossword/FindaWord puzzles, candy, mints and gum, 3 pr. of "crazy" socks, lotion, hand sanitizer, chapstick, wipes, fabric eyemask (to wear to sleep), beanie baby, etc..!

Today I took her a CD player ($12), batteries and 2 CD's!!

I had fun shopping and hoped she liked it all!! She's doing real good healthwise too!!

Thanks again for all the great advice!!

Very nice!! Would you come to visit me if I'm ever in the hospital? :teeth:
