Hi,

I've been reading this board for a couple weeks now and its full of great info for our upcoming trip.

I just know that I will want to buy into DVC but my DH isn't as convinced. His comments:

1. Too far...we live in Hawaii
2. Not deeded...we own other timeshares that are deeded.
3. We need at least 2 weeks since we are traveling so far and
that's a lot of points...well yes, I would like a lot of points :)
4. We can trade into it....this upcoming trip is via a trade
5. Do you really want to always go to WDW?....yes, I do!

Anyway, I'll make sure we at least tour the BCV models. Anyone have good "Lines" ;) I can use. Our boys are 6 & 4 and I just know that they will love WDW and the other Orlando attractions. We already go to Disneyland every year.

Thank you for any help!

Jen

well, we live in OHIO and the answer is easy - - - pre-paid vacation... to a little slice of heaven...

somehow that line won't fly right with someone from Hawaii!!! I guess if you focus on the pre-paid vacation part????

good luck, have fun on your trip!!!

Have fun on your trip and congratulations on getting into DVC via a trade. My understanding is that is rather hard to do.

I do agree with your DH re objection #1. Airfare from HI to FL has to be a concern. Airfare from MN to FL is a concern to us and your cost HAS to be higher than ours (even though we are subject to NWA' s pricing, LOL).

I think taking the tour is a good idea. Why not suggest starting out with 150 points? That would easily get you a studio for 2 weeks every other year. That way you wouldn't HAVE to go (:D ) every year. If your DH "converts", you could always add points later.

Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas...any others?

Aloha,

Jen

I'll try to help. First off, for # 4, it is extremely rare to be able to trade into DVC. As for #2, although it isn't deeded, 40 years is a while, and how old will you be in 40 years. Plus, how well upkept to you think your deeded resorts will be in 65 years? You don't know if your kids/grandkids would want to still go/ pay the maintence. I will be lucky if I'm alive in 40 years, and I wouldn't let the fact that my kids will still have it or not after I die defer me from buying. For #3, you could cut down the points needed by alot by simply staying 12 nights, just cut off one weekend. If you really want to stay longer, stay the first night or two in a hotel, the dvc rooms will seem so much bigger;) . Also, the first night you usually arrive late anyway. As a side note, I wouldn't measure the points up for studio weeks, b/c as you already know from your other timeshares, a regular room is tough to stay in after you stay in big villas. Also, buying you points at OKW would reduce the # of points needed, the rooms are much bigger, and if you ever need a grand villa, it is much cheaper than BWV (lol, i sound like Richyams). For #5 and #1, even though you would like to go every year, you do own other timeshares, so if you stayed every other or every third year w/ a 150 point contract, you'd have 300 or 450 points for that trip. (Remember, it'd be better to get a 150 point contract than no contract, there's always add-ons;) ) Good luck.

Oh BTW:

Our boys are 6 & 4 and I just know that they will love WDW and the other Orlando attractions. We already go to Disneyland every year.

It sounds like you've never been to WDW before. If so, your in for a treat. And heres a good one liner for your husband for DVC when you feel rushed to see everything 'Oh, well if we buy DVC, we'll know we will be coming back and won't have to rush' :D :D

Mooses 41, thanks for the comments!

Seems like the idea is to at least get 150 pts. because you can always add-on later.

You are right that we are "spoiled" by our other vacation clubs so we don't really want to stay in a studio. And we are fortunate to be trading into a Old Key West 2 bedroom unit...or it that unfortunate :)

Hopefully my boys will be perfect Angels at WDW and the 10+ hours plane trip will be a breeze and my husband will get some pixie dust placed on him one night!

Thanks!
Jen
