Going to Disneyland from Palm Desert? Recommendations for hotels close to DL?

This will be our first trip to DL in December. We are staying with family in Palm Dessert. Just wondering if the drive is doable for a day trip to DL. We are thinking about flying into John Wayne airport, staying overnight near DL, then driving to Palm Desert after the parks and doing the same at the end of our trip, driving from Palm Desert in morning to DL and then staying overnight near Disney. We like to go to DL for a total of 3 days so also doing the trip one day mid week. Is this doable or would traffic be horrendous?
Also, recommendations for a hotel stay near Disney-we have 2 kids, 10 and 7. Just need a place to sleep and maybe a nice breakfast.
One more question-how's the weather there at the beginning of December?
Thanks!

I'm no expert...I'm sure some will chime in....but I drove from Palm Springs to DL (one way only) in 2011 in the am...maybe about 8:30 or 9. IIRC, it took 2+ hours.

Best Western Park Place Inn. It's clean, about as close as you can get to the entrance and has an above-average breakfast. I'm staying there right now and would highly recommend it!

The weather in December could go a few different ways. I live in Los Angeles and I never know what to expect from the weather between September and December. I've been to DR in December when it was 90 degrees in the daytime and probably 60-ish at night. I've also been there when it was 55 degrees in the daytime and 30 degrees at night. I've been there when it was windy and dry, and also raining. Supposedly we are in for a lot of messy rain this coming winter, but there is no telling if that rain will have begun by early December or if it will hold off until January.

I wanted to stay there but it's sold out for my dates! Any other recommendations close to the park?
