I have booked a DCL cruise for July. This is our 4th so they know we are Castaway Club members, but do I need to inform them that we are DVC so we can go to the DVC reception and get the "welcome home" magnet?

We got the magnet and whatnot on our last cruise, and I don't recall ever identifying myself as a DVC member. YMMV.

It's probably a bit scary what Disney knows about you. Almost as bad as Google (or Apple, if that's your preferred ecosystem).

We were on the Dream last week, and DVC knew we were there. No need to tell them. You would be able to attend the DVC reception on embarkation day even if they did not know.

They always seem to know. However, when you get to the terminal, stop by the dvc kiosk and have them check their clipboard to make sure your cabin number is listed. They have a list of all dvc members on the cruise.

If you get to your stateroom and the gifts are not there; just go to the DVC meet up or the desk and have your name added to their list. That is if you do not stop by the kiosk in the terminal before embarkation.
We are leaving on this Saturday's Dream sailing, I was called at home last night by the DVC reps on-board, and asked to attend the DVC meet up meeting.

We've done 3 cruises since becoming DVC and it's been our experience that they just know.

All of your Disney affiliations are interconnected. If you log on to either MDE or DCL and go to the Memberships & Passes section of your profile, you should see your DCL Castaway status (if you've sailed DCL before), your DVC Club ID, your Disney Annual Pass (if you have one).

I would tell them at time of booking. You are guaranteed to get the lowest pricing as a DVC member, although maybe you get that with Castaway Club, too. But I would tell them and let them figure out your best price.

IMHO, this is incorrect.
DVC pricing is higher than opening day pricing for all cruises.
You MUST go through the DVC MS to obtain DVC pricing; so MS will already know you are DVC. If you are talking about going through DCL on a cash price they will not give you the DVC price, DCL will instruct you to contact DVC MS for those rates.
DVC must negotiate a price with DCL every year for both DCV member pricing on either points or cash.

Thanks! I didn't know I would get a DVC discount onboard! That's awesome. I did have an issue booking with my CC number, I had forgotten it and had to call and get it. We have an irish name and they put a space between the little C and the big C. I have it saved now!

On cruises from 2011 to 2016 they used to give out cool swag only to members, I liked collecting the member exclusive cruise pins, there were some wonderful Tervis tumblers, etc. On the cruise I took in 2017 there was nothing great, just the hats and Copper Creek pins which were not special at all. Oh well.
For me going to the presentations was still worth it since I won the OBC, not sure if I'll go to them again next cruise though.
