Going in August - What to do with wet ponchos or wet shoes

We both wear running shoes with socks when we tour WDW--both have foot problems--but a couple of nights before we leave for WDW, I get out the waterproofing stuff we use in the winter on our boots and apply it to our runners.

I agree with the other poster who said they hate the wearing the poncho's because they get so hot. I take a few of the mini umbrella's, they are small and take up little room in our bag. we do carry ponch's with us because there are times when the umbrella's just don't cut it and we have to break down and put on our poncho's. We just stuff them in a large zip lock bag when the rain stops and hang them to dry when we get back to our room. all 3 of my children and myself wear flip flops but my husband wears socks and sneakers. He brings an extra pair to give them a day to dry in between. It is very hot in Aug. but most things are inside in the air conditioning so it makes it bearable. I noticed last Aug. that it seemed to rain at the same time everyday so we always planned to stop in somewhere for a sit down snack at that time everyday. The rain does not last for long so it shouldn't slow you down. We enjoyed going in Aug so much last year that we are going again this Aug. Hope you have a great trip!

THE RAIN WILL SOAK THROUGH BACKPACKS! Carry a water resistant bag. You need not spend a fortune on a bag. A plastic grocery bag or ziplock bag will work fine.

I bought a can of water repellant spray at Walmart (~$7) and sprayed our back pack (and our running shoes). Worked like a charm!:)

Two tips to prevent blisters from walking in sandals: spray antiperspirant on your feet, &/or use Body Glide. For our feet it is good sport sandals all the way, absolutely no sneakers, and no flops, either. (Wet sneakers ... ugh.)

On days when it is rainy or if we are going on rides that get us wet, we also wear technical clothing that dries quickly. We still do ponchos, but we don't need them except in major downpours. We keep the cheapy ponchos for the entire trip, and then we give them away to other guests who are waiting for wet rides. We store them in a ziploc when not in use.

Of all the environmental conditions that make me feel miserable, being wet while fully dressed is at the top of the list. Chafing from walking around in wet street clothing is awful, so investing in sports clothing is worth it to me.
