My family of 13 will be arriving on 8/16. Staying for a week at AKV! We are very excited, as my sister, her girls, and my brother's twins have never been to the World before! I checked the crowd calendar and it doesn't look terrible. I think the beginning of the week is about a 7 (out of 10) and it declines to 6's toward the end of the week. I'm figuring small, but manageable, crowds, really.

I hope you have a great trip!!! :)

It will be busy and you need to plan ahead ti get fast passes for those rides you need to do. Also, you may want to take the afternoons off and go to the pool or nap because it is so hot and humid that you will really be tired. Many kids have melt downs and get sick if the adults don't get them rest. But it is a lot of fun, the pools are warm and the nights are fine.:)

That week shouldn't be too bad, but the northern states are still on summer break so there are alot of families in our area that wait till that time to take their trips.

Yay to all of the above. I usually go the first week of December and the 3 rd week of April, i am not going in April this year becasue the 3rd week is Easter and Talk about crowds No thanks. So August is basically the big 3

LOL!! You will be fine! The crowds should be nothing compared to Spring Break/Holidays!! :goodvibes

We've been going in August now for the last couple of years & have another trip booked for this August. Yes, it is extremely HOT & HUMID but obviously it hasn't been that bad because we keep going back :).

First time in August was in 2012, we were there from 8/11-8/20. We found the crowds in the beginning part of the vacation to be totally manageable and were pleasantly surprised. But then FD started right around the 19th? and we felt the increase in crowds our last two days - at the parks and resorts (wasn't expecting the influx of people after having read that the latter part of August was a quiet time :confused3). Last year, we returned on a FD BB and went from 8/18-8/25 and once again, we found parks to be busier, still manageable, but busier than we had expected so we didn't bother booking the FD BB for this year since the start date was even later in August instead opting to go earlier in the month. We'll be there beginning on the 13th and will be leaving before the FD BB date starts so we'll see how crowds are this time around :goodvibes

We go the last weeks of August also and I can tell you it's surface of the sun hot, and you'll be sweaty all day long. It will rain most days after 3 p.m., but usually is done by 6 or 7. That's just the way it is, drink lots of liquids and you'll be fine.

Will it be busy? Yes, but not mid summer busy. Plan on getting to the parks at rope drop, take a break during midday (hottest part of the day), then head back to the parks in the evenings.

Plan some of the longer attractions in the nice cool air conditioning for later in the morning or when you first come back to parks in the evening.

Do not plan to eat any meals outside.

We are going the last week of August and we are still on summer holiday (most norther US schools don't go back until after labor day

It will be somewhat crowded but when you go is the start of slow down period for summer (mid-August is when Disney starts the deal/discounts)

We have gone in Aug almost every year since 2001. We've done it them because of the deals offered. I'm a teacher so it's also been right before we go back to school in MN. You just go early and take a break to swim/nap in the hottest part of the afternoon. Then go back at night.

First time we are going in a few weeks in April. We got an amazing deal and both of us were able to take that week off. And in all honesty, I needed a break from the heat and humidity of going in Aug!

Thanks for all the responses.

I am sure we will manage the heat ok its the crowds i was more concerned with as we usually travel in less crowded times of the year, but it seems like lately its 365 days of crowds anyway with the major holidays being more crowded.

We went the second to last week in August last year. It was definitely sweltering, but it's a great excuse for a Mickey bar and a nice TS lunch! We didn't think the crowds were too bad. We pretty much stuck to Josh's recommendations over at easywdw. It only felt pretty nutty when we went to MK on a non recommended day

We were there from August 9th until August 18th last year. It was very crowded that week. I'm not sure if the crowds thinned out after we left.

It was also very hot. From 1 to 3 it really hit you. I would do Disney again in August. Husband? Not so much. :)

The good news was that we got a the room at a discounted rate.

Have fun!

We always went in February each year but since our kids schedules changed we now go in August. There are crowds - not as bad as February - but still a lot of people. I will say that it rained everyday - not that long - but everyday. If it was a little longer than usual the park would empty out - that we loved. We would pack our rain ponchos and keep going. One day it rained so hard while we were at HS that after it stopped the park was empty. My kids and DH went on ToT about 10 times in a short amount of time. They loved it.

We've gone in July and all I have to say is I've never showered so often in my life!
I think I did 3 showers almost everyday. Either from "glowing" profusely or from being rained on... :rotfl:

So keep that in mind when you're packing ...

Good advice above.

So true. We first went on an August trip in 2005. I think it might have been the first year they offered FD? or at that time of year? Can't remember. We thought it was great and crowds were less than our October trips. As the years went by and FD came to be expected that time of year, we noticed the crowds building. We still got all we wanted done.

Funny, the years we went in Aug and didn't purchase FD we noticed that the parks seem crowded but riding the actual rides wasn't a problem. Maybe everyone was in eating? Don't know for sure but that was our theory.

We ALWAYS take afternoon breaks but especially that time of year. You sound like you can handle the heat........that's good. My family really can't. lol We've switched to spring trips. But we have great memories of those trips. :goodvibes

Have fun planning! :)

Oh, YES! haha forgot about that. Me too! We were on a 10 day trip too and even though we packed a lot I still had to do 3 loads of laundry at the resort. We would go thru at least 2 total outfits a day. :p

I love going in August. Between the heat and the miles walked, I always come home weighing 5 or 6 lbs less than when I went and I eat A LOT on vacation! :cool1:

Have you ever been in Florida in the summer? It's a far cry from the Jersey shore; be ready for the humidity and relentless sunlight. Wear breathing material, use lots of sunscreen in the parks (especially on the kids), wear wide brim hats and consider using Body Glide or some other anti-chaffing product.

Get in shape! Even if you feel you're ready for the heat you'll have a better time if you are in your best physical condition and ready for the exercise.

I actually envy you, I'd love to go in the summer but I don't think DW would survive. :scared:

We'll be arriving the same day :thumbsup2! We go every year around this same time and I don't think it's that bad.
