We're supposed to take off from Paris on the 10th of October.

Last week Air France announced they would go on strike on the 5th and warned it would be a long and hard strike (last time it lasted 15 days) ... and, of course we're booked on an Air France plane ...

we can only wait and pray that they call the stike off at the last minute ... okay still believieng in Santa Claus ...

yesterday, it's SNCF (france national train company) that announced tney would go on strike on October 8th ... and ... well you've guessed it ... we take the train on the evening of the 9th to do the 160 miles between our home and Charles de Gaulle Airport ...

We're 14 days out and still don't know when we'll go if we go at all ...
we'll need to rent a car if there are no trains, and we might need to cancel (with penalty) our car hire in orlando to rebook it at a later date if we're delayed by a day or even 3 as it happened last year to a felow forumer.
That will add something like £250 or £300 to the already ridiculous price of our vacations

sorry but I need to vent.

Ooh the french and their strikes. A year since we left France and I really do not miss those.

I hope it gets sorted out. We used to drive to Gatwick to go to Orlando to avoid this but not much you can do if you are flying Air France.

fingers crossed any delays are not too strenuous and stressful for you chmurf.

Fingers crossed that you manage to get everything sorted and your plans are not disrupted too much! pixiedust:

Oh no, I'm due to spend that weekend in Disneyland Paris. I'm not flying in with Air France, but I was planning on getting a train from the airport.

so far, the SNCF strike spans 7/10 7pm to 9/10 8am
we'll know in the evening of the 8th if the strike is reconducted.

ok....so what i said as i read your post can't be written here...well, it could be written, but the computer will bleep it all out...
but a lot of the words started with F.... (and not just 'french')

i hope it all works out....so so so so so very upsetting!....well...upsetting doesn't come close to describing what you're going through...

so sorry....i'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you..

That's dreadful. I have everything crossed for you. The way French strikes hold the general public to ransom is a disgrace.

double post for new update

A couple of hours ago the Board meeting room was raided by strikers.

Several executives had to be exfiltrated by the police after being assaulted.
News footage show them exiting the building, shirtless (or ripped clothes)
Air France has announced they will press charges for aggravated assault.

The board meeting should resume at 2:30pm (paris time)

to illustrate, here's Air France's HR Director leaving the meeting ...

BEST OF LUCK and much pixie dust!:wizard: So stressful I am sure! If you have trip insurance, I remember a strike as a "covered reason" for cancellation "just in case" the situation doesn't resolve!::yes::
