Going back in October and December- but when?

We are just back from another great visit with the mouse but alas I'm always there when it's busy! So, since we are on a mission to use our AP passes to the max before they expire next March, we are planning two more trips. First we are going in October, my dd's birthday month and then December for my son's birthday month. Any suggestions for when to go in either of those months that won't be really busy? I've gone in October before thinking it shouldn't be busy and twice I hit the "gay day" weekends and it was swamped! Some people can time Disneyland really well but I literally always seem to go when the lines are an hr. long!

Since I am working both the Halloween at DL super thread and the Disney at Christmas super thread, I will jump in!

For October, my feeling is that the first two weeks of October are busier for various reasons. There are certain variables that contribute to more crowds in the first half of the month. And then, when you start to get really close to Halloween, it gets busier. So, based on that I would think that right in mid-October (after Columbus Day passes) would be the best time, and on weekdays if you can swing it (rather than weekends).

In December, all accounts say that early December is the best time to go before the crowds set in. With each passing week in December, the crowds pick up. Early December is good because most people are freshly back at work post-Thanksgiving and they have not taken their holiday breaks yet. Again, weekdays would be better than weekends, if you can manage it.
