Goin' to see the Mouse for Spring Break~just me and Fiance at POP-Update 3/20

Hi! Just joining in officially. Although I think I've been reading bits and pieces of this all along.

My favourite CS at EPCOT were Sunshine Seasons (for the dessert selections mostly!) and Tangeriene Cafe (not as scary as it may sound).

Le Cellier seems overrated... maybe because I'm Canadian? But I would like to try it sometime. Can't go wrong with caesar salad, steak and cheesecake!

I've always love Coral Reef at Epcot- idk why its just always been a favorite!

Le Cellier-my pick would be the mushroom fillet. It's the only thing I've had there but I loved it.:lovestruc

Haven't ever had Kona but it sounds delish.

TONGA TOAST, hands down!!!!!

i get it with no fruit sauce and just use maple syrup. :thumbsup2

they also have excellent pressed pot coffee if you're a coffee drinker.

i've eaten at le cellier, rose and crown, teppan edo, les chefs de france and sunshine seasons at epcot. they were all good, but i do think teppan edo was my fave. the food wasn't out of this world but the experience was really fun! le cellier was good but i'm spoiled because ray can grill a steak like nobody's business and his are just as good. rose and crown was yummy but they didn't have a lot on the menu that appealed to me. and chefs de france had really yummy mac and cheese!

We finally got to eat at Kona for breakfast on our last trip and I had the Tonga Toast. I'm sure there are other good things on the menu there, but I will never eat anything there except Tonga Toast. Yum!

I still have not found a favorite place to eat at Epcot. We keep trying new things. I know that I DON'T like the San Angel in Mexico. And I really LOVE the pastery place in France, but that is for the desserts & not a meal. We tried the CS place in Morrocco and it was good (a little bland). My dad got the sun-dried tomato wrap and it was really good. I will get that next time.

You guys can keep your banana mush, I'm getting the macadamia nut pancakes! I think I'll ask for some strawberry compote to go with them too. ;) And sausage is a must!! With coffee, of course!

I fix pineapple macadamia pancakes at home quite often. They are so good!

I admit I pull most of the banana mush out of the middle of the Tonga toast. I just like a little of it for flavor, but most of it sits at the side of the plate.

How 'bout we all meet at Kona in about an hour and just try a little bit of everything!

I never thought of doing that at home!! I am so doing that THIS Saturday!! I don't have the Macadamias, but I do have Pecans, and I think they would sub in just fine with the pineapple. :thumbsup2

I am hoping maroo or LeeAnn will order the Tonga just so I can at least taste it, to say I did. ;)

YES!! Let's all do that!! I love that idea!!

oooh Tonga Toast. We have it on our must-try list again this year. Our last trip, we just never seemed to get around to it. I've only ever done Kona for dinner, always yummy! I love snacking, and sometimes drinking ;), my way around the world at Epcot.

Can you get macadamias over there? If not, I'd be glad to send you some.

I'm on my way to Kona

in my mind

right now!

Tonga toast is huge, so there will be plenty to share from whoever gets it. Jill and I almost always get different things and share, so that we can taste a good variety of Disney foods.

deal! as soon as the judge comes to the bench, i will tell him that we're gonna need to cut this hearing short so i can head that way! i'm sure he won't mind. :rolleyes1

you should try to make some tonga toast at home. i did and it turned out better than i predicted. not disney tonga toast but close!

Tuesday, March 16:

Today is Epcot/MK day. We have an 8:30 a.m. ADR at Kona Cafe! And of course, I know for sure I'm getting the Tonga Toast! For those of you who don't know what that is, it's banana-stuffed sourdough bread, rolled in cinnamon sugar. YUM.

Then, we'll walk over to the TTC and hop on the Epcot monorail. We'll hang out there until it's time for our 2:05 p.m. ADR at Le Cellier. I've been there before, but Fiance has not. I knew this was one place he'd love. Looking at the menu, there's a few things that look good to me: Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon, which is served with wild mushroom risotto and white truffle-herb butter sauce. Or Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken, which is Romaine lettuce, parmesan, sourdough croutons, and a creamy Caesar dressing. Or Salmon "BLT" , which has grilled salmon, vine-ripened tomato, pancetta, watercress, and chive sour cream.

For dessert, I'll either have the cheesecake or the creme brulee.

So, for those of you who have been to Kona- what is your favorite thing to get for breakfast?

Also, where is your favorite place to eat at when at Epcot?

Our favorite meal of the whole trip was in Epcot at Chef's de France. It was incredible and the service was beyond compare!

I will second what Liesa said about Starring Rolls. The sandwiches are huge. Although we have never eaten there. I didn't mind Pizza Planet. We have eaten at Eddie's Cantina a few times for a sandwich.. it's right near RnRC and ToT.

We never have eaten a TS in DHS.:confused3

We will have to check out Starring Rolls for sure! You guys should really try Mama Melrose sometime! It's SO good.

You are making me incredibly hungry

Every trip Tonga Toast is a 'must do' and never happens... The 16th might be my favorite day so far especially if you may have Cheesecake.

At Epcot, believe it or not, we really enjoyed the Biergarten.

Tonga Toast! Tonga Toast!

I haven't been to Biergarten before!

I've eaten at several places in EPCOT- The Italian Joint (can't remember the name of it and I'm too lazy to go look it up) which was very mediocre, the Marakesh, which was very bland compared to what real Moroccan should be; the Yakitori House (CS), again, Top Ramen in a fancy plastic dish, The Akershus twice- first time was in 2000 and was fabulous, but then they messed with a good thing, dumbed it down and went with blando Americanized crapola. It grieves my hungry heart, to see this happening to the EPCOT places!! :headache:

Anyway, IF I were to try Le Cell. I'd go for that salad!! I'm dying for ANYTHING green and fresh right now!!! ANYTHING!!!! OK, I'm better...

Hmm..all those places are all places I haven't been yet!

Never been to Kona for breakfast, but I think it's almost required that you get the Tonga Toast.

At Epcot, we like Biergarten. Sausages, Potatoes, Kraut, Black Forest Cake...what more could you want? Oh, and I forgot beer!

I haven't been to Kona for breakfast either! I just know that the Tonga Toast is so good from our DIS friends. HA!

Another vote for Biergarten. I haven't been there yet!

The Coral Reef is yummy! :)

OOOOH those pics look good Dawn! Is the pressed pot coffee on the dining plan?

I really want to try Teppan Edo!

If you want to try a nice CS, try the Sunshine Seasons! It has a good variety of food!

HAHA, sounds very good to me! :)

That's exactly what I"m hoping for!! Everyone getting a little something different, and us all trying each others!! :thumbsup2

Is their coffee as good as everyone says it is?? Someday MeMom, it sure would be fun to really, really meet!! You're up for Nashville in the fall, right??

We can get a few kinds of nuts, but not Macadamias. Really though, I can wait. It's only a few more months, and they will be that much better if I anticipate :)

I have made Tonga here for my family!! It turned out great, except, I didn't know how to get the cinnamon sugar to stick really well. It all sorta fell off and wasn't all smothered like it shows in everyone's pictures.

Yeah, tell that judge that you have a date. :rotfl2: Better yet, invite him along- everyone needs a coffee/macadamia nut pancake break. :lmao:

Update:

For those of you who read about my friend who has just been diagnosed with leukemia, she is still hanging in there! I talked to her on Friday around 3 p.m. and she said she had been getting blood since 9 a.m.! We also just found out that they are having a benefit for her March 6th with lots of nice stuff like 50/50 raffle. I hope a lot of people show up. They really need the money for the hospital bills and stuff.

Now on with the trip...

Wednesday, March 17:

Today is our AK day. We have a 1 p.m. ADR at Yak & Yeti. Because one of our other meals takes 2 TS credits, we're paying OOP for this one.

I love getting the Steamed Mussels, which are fresh Prince Edward Isle black mussels, white wine, lemon grass, and Thai basil-scented broth. I also love getting the House Salad, which is Romaine and iceberg lettuce, almonds, sesame seeds and sesame dressing. So good!

It's also evening EMH's at AK, so we'll be there for dinner as well. For CS, we've had a hard time finding a place we really really like. Pizzafari is good if you're in the mood for that. We were thinking of maybe heading over to AKL and eating at The Mara, which we love.

Where at AK do you like to eat?

I've only ever had Flame Tree, and we LOVED it!! THey have a fresh fruit plate which comes with a honey yogurt dip that is perfect. The BBQ pork sanny was terrific, and we are beany kind of people so we loved those too. I have heard though, that a lot of folks don't like them. I guess it depends on what you like. Overall, we'd go back and gave it a thumbs up. Plus, you can't beat the seating!! It is stunningly beautiful around the lily pond with EE in the background. :thumbsup2

we're gonna eat at Yak&Yeti also when we go to AK! All the food looks so delicious! Can't wait to eat the Fried Wontons everyone talks about!

Last summer, for the two days that we had lunch at AK, one day we brought in sandwiches that we had made in our suite that morning, and the other day we got food from the Yak and Yeti window service.

But, one thing we almost did, was use that "picnic in the park" thing they were doing. I think they've tweaked it a lot, if not discontinued it altogether, but at the time you would put in your order in the morning and then pick up your food at lunchtime (I forget where) and eat anywhere in the park. I think they had a sandwich/wrap option (less expensive) and a chicken option (more expensive), maybe more.
