Can I get a badge with my son's name made at WDW somewhere when we get there? We are leaving Sat morning (3 days!) so I can't order one. I will have a laminated card pinned on his back (reversed) with his name, hotel, room #, our cell #s, walkie talkie channel, etc. on it, but would love to get him a badge for his lanyard.

Planning on getting him a pin kit (lanyard and few pins?) to give him some opportunities to interact with CMs.

Can I get him a badge made anywhere once we get there (this is our first trip).

Thanks!~Cara

Wilderness Lodge, May 7-14, 2005 (3 DAYS!!!)

i do know that you can get them at the christmas shop in DTD. I called there and ordered on to be sent to our onsite room on our first day there

You can get them at the 5 & 10 cent store at MGM. The Christmas Store in DTD has them also. Both places engrave the name on the badges but I like the way the Christmas store does them better. Someplace in MK sells them, too...I 'think' it's Uptown Jewelers.

Cara, are you staying at a Disney resort? If so, I'd be happy to pick up a GOH badge and have it engraved for your son. I could drop it off at your resort Saturday morning. I'm going to DTD tomorrow to get some other badges made, so it would be no trouble. PM me, if you are interested, with your son's name, the resort where you will be staying and the name your reservation will be under so Guest Services makes sure you get it when you check in.

Really, you would do that? How would I pay you for it? His name is Noah. He is 8 years old and he is autistic. He is sooooo excited about going, we have a countdown on the calender. You can't imagine how many times I have answered the question "Are we going to Disney World?".

I PMed you.

You would be making a special boy a very special memory. You are sooo sweet!

This is his whole speech: "We go to Disney Woold, I see Mickey and Minnie, I give dem a big hug, but Minnie is for gools." (girls)

Only 3 more days and 1000 more "Are we going" questions!

Thank you again~Cara

I just wanted to say what a thoughtful thing for Peg to offer!

And Cara, I hope your family has a wonderful, magical vacation!! I know your DS will absolutely love it!! :wizard:

Cara, I PM'd you back. It is no problem. I'd love to get a badge for Noah.

Thank you jack's girl. I told Peggy that he is sooo excited. The best thing about going with a special child is that he totally believes in the magic. That really IS Mickey! He has no idea there is a person in there. We have PSs at Crystal Palace, chef Mickey's, Donald's Breakfast, Ohana's, and the H&V Fantasmic package.

His big brother Dillon, 11, has requested the Luau at the Poly so we are going to that. We picked the WL because it has a lobby, we need an extra buffer between Noah and the pool. (2 autistic boys have drowned here in Houston in the last year, they are fascinated with water). The men here thought the GF was too girly and the Contemporary has the monorail too close. I could see Noah getting out of the room and getting on it, yikes! Planning on taking his pic with the digital every morning so we can show the CMs if he does get lost. The problem is he won't act like he is lost because he won't be scared.

He is almost 9yo but is only in the 1st grade so he is more like a big 5-6yo. He has a whole list of what he wants to do so those are first on the list.

This is such a great board. Thank you everyone!

And thank you again, Peggy, uh, I mean Fairy Godmother!~Cara

Cara in TX have you checked out the disABILITIES boards here? I know that they have some really great ideas for some of the problems we encountered taking our special DS to DisneyWorld (bring bells for the doors so you know when they are being opened, we brought a wreath hanger and put it on top of the door frame with bells attached......take a small photoalbum with slots on one side and a piece of blank paper on the other. Snap a digital photo of your son with the character while they sign the blank paper then you have a photo to go along with the signature..... etc. ) We tied a Mickey Mouse metal nametag (we made it in one of the stores in Down town Disney...it is really a pet tag but it is adorable and we put DS name our hotel and our cell #'s on it....he loved it ) to his shoe we figured if he did wander he would eventually show someone it. Also since my DS has Autistic characteristics he has trouble with crowds sometimes...we get a GAC for him ....we have used it 3 times in all the trips we have made but it is a so nice knowing we have it just in case. Your son sounds adorable!!! Check out the disABILITIES section if you havent already. Have a magical trip!! I know one of my best memories is of my son seeing Mickey and taking Mickeys hand and putting it on his face and then on his heart...his way of telling Mickey he loved him...he is 16 but he still believes ...........isn't it GREAT!!!!! Enjoy your trip!!

Good ideas, thanks. Noah knows his name, phone#, address, our real names, etc. We have been teaching him Wilderness Lodge so he can answer that question. The bells are a great idea! People just don't realize how smart, crafty, and FAST these kids are. Of course losing him is my worse nightmare so I tend to go overboard. He is getting better at sticking with us but at WDW all bets are off.

I have read all the autism threads on the disAbilities board and they have great ideas. These boards are a godsend for folks with "other" issues!

I am having her do 2 very special Surprise baskets for our trip in 3 weeks. She answered all my e-mails and found everything I wanted for the baskets  It is so great to have the baskets uniquley made for the boys. They will remember this for years to come :)
If only everyone in the world were this helpful it would be such a great thing!!
Thanks Peggy for providing a great service!

Cara-

I work with children with autism and I know what you are saying about how fast and smart they can be (also sweet caring and kind)! Just wanted to say hope you and your family have a wonderful trip! This should be the best vacation Noah will ever have!

My son has PDD tendancies (to go along with a lanugage disorder) and loves WDW! It may be coincidence, but I feel like he's made big developemental strides every trip we've made, it's the Disney Magic at work! :) Have a great trip!

Wow, that is great news, maybe that will happen for us. We had to tape GMA this morning so they wouldn't miss anything when they went to school, LOL. Noah just kept saying, Where is Mickey? We are going to have to go see Mickey first thing.

Cara, I got Noah's GOH badge today. It will be waiting at the resort when you check in. Oh, and I picked up one for Dillon also. Have a great vacation!

OMG! You are so wonderful, I hope you left some contact info so the boys can thank you. I told Dillon that Noah was getting one so we will leave his as a surprise. Thank you!

My pleasure! I'll leave my card with the badges. I'd love to hear from the kids.
