...anyone else who has to get up at 5:00 in the morning to go to work!

I subbed for the first time in a High School Autistic Class (God Bless those teachers for that alone!) All my previous classes have been from preschool up to junior high.

I'm home earlier than usual, but 5:00 a.m. is nauseating. I seriously felt queasy until about 8:00.

I think it's nap time :teeth:

I'll take any blessing you want to offer ;) for being a HS teacher, but I don't get up until 6--I have to be at work at 7. School starts at 7:55 but I run a mandatory study table for our vocational --oops, career and tech.--students who are failing their English classes.

God bless teachers for getting up at 5:00AM?!?!?!?! Ummm NO! lol. First off, it is people like them (well, morning people...but anyway, whoever started this) that we have to go to school so dang early...before it is even light out in order to do work with our brain still half asleep! Dang the morning people who started the tradition!!! :p

I say teachers stop working if they hate the hours...then, when there is a major lack of teachers and they find out they just need to move the start of school later, then viola!! They AND we students can sleep in so we can focus better during the day!! lol...hey, I can wish, can't I?? ;)

LOL Flyfly!

Actually, I agree with you for the most part. I think it's an obscene hour for teenagers to go to school.

Research has shown that teenagers, for the most part, are unable to fall asleep until very late, no matter how tired they are. Some sort of hormone type issue. This makes mornings very difficult for them.

They also have jobs and homework and sports issues that make early evenings impossible. This along with many parent's need for an older child to be home for younger siblings has kept changes from happening. I'm really not sure how much it's truly the teacher's idea.

I read somewhere that there are schools somewhere (maybe Colorado?) that have changed the hours that teenagers go to school and there has been a positive change in attendance and scores.

I don't know where the rest of the country is, LOL.

Now younger children on the other hand have a tendency to get up earlier (I know my children were up much, much earlier than they needed to be). And in the earlier years, were very tired in the afternoon.

It sure does seem backwards.

Yeah, ironically when I was in grade school school started at 8:30AM and once I hit middle and high school, we got lucky...7:25AM!!!  That means I have to get up before 6AM in order to catch the bus. No time for breakfast or anything. I end up falling asleep in class which is terrible, but I can honestly not help it :(

And I never knew that about the late nights even if tired. This is true for me, but I never thought about it being hormone related or whatever. I can't go to bed before 11PM...always get less than 7 hours of sleep...when I need 12!!! LOL :p

I feel bad for you guys too! I'm sure you probably do need at least 10 hours and there's no way to get it.

Okay, God Bless High School Students too!!!! :) :) :)

Oh, your brave to sub in high school! I'll only do elementary. No high school or middle school for me unless it's an emergency and there's absolutely no one else!!
