As we are due to meet at 7.30am I arrange to meet Ben at 6.30am to go and get breakfast. We get breakfast and then go to meet everyone in the lobby. Here we meet our guide Michael and get all the formal paperwork out of the way. There are 13 of us in total, 10 girls and 3 boys – Louise, Jessica, Hannah, Jo, Clair, Simon and Ben from the UK, Arda from the Netherlands, Hayley from Australia, Oliver from Belgium with Eun and Sinbi from South Korea. By about 8.45am we are leaving and heading towards Santa Barbara via Hollywood. We are dropped off right by Mann’s Chinese Theatre and are given 45 minutes to wander about and soak up the atmosphere and get some pics
We then carry on with a brief diversion through Beverly Hills and Bel Air before hitting the PCH and Santa Barbara. We arrive here about lunch time and make our lunch from the supplies Michael has pre-stocked the coolers with
We then have about 2 hours to spend how we wish be it beach or town. I settle for the beach and wander off with Jo, Hannah and Ben.
We leave Santa Barbara about 3pm and stop in a local K Mart to get some essential supplies, mainly a sleeping bag and clothes for Oliver and clothes for Hannah, as they have both had their suitcases lost by the airlines
Soon we are on our way to Buellton for our first night under canvas! We arrive about 6pm and the campsite is lovely and we are given a demonstration of how to put our tents up and it is also time to decide who are tent partners are for the duration of the trek. As it is we all pair up quickly and in fact the matches are ideal! Whilst we set up our tents Michael cooks dinner.
After a long first day we are all in the tents ready for sleep by about 10.3pm, tomorrow we are off to Monterey.
